Product Development Engineer - Salt Lake City, United States - Total Joint Orthopedics
Description
TJO is seeking a Product Development Engineer who is a self-starter, requiring minimal supervision and who is interested in maintaining existing products and developing new orthopedic implants and instruments.
As a Product Development Engineer you will need to be able to communicate ideas, concepts, designs, and requirements to a wide range of audiences including surgeons, engineers, sales & marketing, and manufacturing.
What you'll do:
Perform design engineering and create documentation according to design control procedures to bring orthopedic products to market at a small, fast-moving company
Work with TJO's surgeon design advisory teams to translate clinical requirements into new and/or improved products
Develop project plans to meet clinical, quality, regulatory, and business needs
Create, manage, and communicate project budgets and timelines
Implement design verification testing through the use of feasibility testing or verification protocols and report as assigned to the design team
Coordinate completion of project deliverables, design documents, solid models, drawings, risk management, and device master file record packages
Use CAD to create models and production drawings for implants and instruments
Create prototypes for evaluations and implement design thinking to create human centered and practical solutions
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience in orthopedic design
Minimum 5 years of experience within a product development or mechanical engineering design role
Sincere interest in the medical device business with a goal to develop new hip and knee products
Self-starter mentality requiring minimal supervision to accomplish assigned tasks
Excellent product design background, ability to create product concepts from user interaction, prototype those concepts, get feedback from users and refine the design to a final product
The ability to adapt to customer, organizational, business, and external influences with integrity, immediate consideration, and action to meet business objectives
Flexible and patient attitude towards challenges, such as design and scope changes, helpful to have had experience in a start-up environment
Well-versed in project management, planning and the communication of progress
Desire to learn, grow, and identify and take on more responsibilities
SolidWorks CAD modeling/drawing creation skills
Experience in Orthopedics very strongly desired
Demonstrated written and spoken interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work in differing environments, including, but not limited to: office setting, remote collaboration, cadaver labs, and operating rooms
