    Established in the Blue Ridge foothills of North Carolina in 1963, Leonard Buildings and Truck Accessories is a manufacturer and distributor whose product lines include storage buildings, cargo and utility trailers, truck covers, truck and van accessories, carports, playhouses, chicken coops, and dog houses.     Job Summary

    The Cost Accountant reports directly to the Senior Director of Finance and will have primary responsibility for maintenance of the Bill of Materials, inventory accuracy at the manufacturing plants and analysis/reporting of manufacturing variances. This position will be the primary business partner between the Plant Managers and the Finance department. This is a "hands-on" position requiring continuous improvement leadership, strong operational experience and the ability to maintain a standard cost system.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Maintain BOM accuracy within the cost accounting system by:
      • Monitor costs of key raw material categories
      • Track and monitor actual labor costs vs. BOM labor assumptions
      • Monitor spending on overhead items
      • Understand drivers of freight costs
    • Perform monthly analysis of manufacturing results, spending patterns and variances to support the closing process
    • Assist the Sr Finance Director in the development of annual budgets
    • Support and improve the physical inventory process and modify inventory procedures as necessary
    • Create actual vs standard cost reporting and work closely with Operations to drive cost reduction initiatives
    • Prepare plant related capex investments requests and monitor actual spending against approved budgets
    • Work with Operations to drive inventory reductions
    • Review and monitor slow-moving inventory; work with manufacturing management to develop actions for reducing the slow-moving inventory
    • Drive continuous improvement in Cost Accounting practices, BOM accuracy and Inventory controls
    • Ensure accurate valuation of inventories and participate in Cycle Count Program
    • Incumbent will be a partner to plant management to support their efforts to continually reduce costs and improve inventory metrics
    Requirements

    Qualifications and Skills
    • Minimum Bachelors in Accounting and/or Finance
    • 5 years directly related experience in a manufacturing environment
    • Background in Continuous Improvement is preferred
    • Excellent computer skills with proficiency with ERP cost accounting systems and all Microsoft Office applications with advanced skills in Excel.
    • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Self-Starter, Manage and prioritize workload and achieve effective results in a fast-paced, growing environment
