R&D Research Engineer - Everett, United States - Zap Energy

Description

Zap Energy is currently seeking Research Engineers to help develop the next generation Z-pinch fusion device and its associated experiment systems.

Research Engineers will be involved at all stages of development and operation of ultra-high vacuum systems, plasma-facing electrodes, high-performance gas puff valves, plasma diagnostics, mechanical structures and devices, and other experiment systems.

Responsibilities
Design, build, test, and operation of devices for fusion energy research, including one or more of the following:

ultra-high vacuum systems

plasma-facing electrodes

high-performance gas puff valves

plasma diagnostics

mechanical structures and devices

Operation of fusion z-pinch devices

Development of laboratory infrastructure and processes

Qualifications
Required

Education:
BS degree in Aerospace / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or Physics

Experience: 3-7 years

computer aided design (CAD), SolidWorks preferred

experience in one or more of the following areas:

ultra-high vacuum systems (pumps, gauges, RGAs, and operations)

electrode design, materials selection and evaluation

gas puff valves and other fluid systems

design and fabrication of mechanical structures and devices

plasma science

Preferred
MS degree in Aerospace / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or Physics

experience with finite element analysis (e.g. COMSOL or ANSYS)

experience with basic electronics, electrical fabrication, AC power

experience with mechanical fabrication methods (lathes, mills, drill presses, etc.)

experience with high voltage and pulsed power

The estimated salary range for this position is $90k-130k.

Candidates may be considered for other positions at Zap Energy and actual salary will be based on relevant education, experience, and other qualifications.

Range is published in accordance with Washington Equal Pay and Opportunity Act.
