We also use applied technology expertise to serve the defense, entertainment, material handling, aerospace, science, and renewable energy industries.

    Position Summary

The Junior Mechanical Engineering Manager has two main job functions, (1) functional management to entry level engineers (Reports) and (2) Staff Engineer. Ideally, there will be a 50/50 split between the duties, this may fluctuate based on business needs.
The Functional Manager is the single point of contact for junior engineers (typically with zero to two years of engineering experience) to provide consistent professional development advice and performance evaluations, until the engineer is promoted to the next career level. The manager is expected to provide technical mentorship to the junior mechanical engineers. Typical tasks include bi-annual performance reviews, regular communications with all Reports, identify and facilitate training opportunities to develop professional skills, recommendations for raises and promotions, and generally advocating for the Report. Typical administrative tasks include approval of timesheets, expense reports and training requests.
The Staff Engineer has mastery of multiple core engineering principle and advanced knowledge of related engineering fields. The Staff Engineer independently directs and technically manages engineering and design activities under the guidance of a Project Manager and is responsible for tracking progress and technical adequacy of the design solution. The Staff Engineer interacts with all OTECH departments as necessary to provide engineering support to OTECH manufacturing, integration, and test activities, and provides work leadership for lower-level employees. Experience in maritime and/or subsea engineering is highly desired.
