    Description

    Commonwealth Academy is seeking to hire a full-time Math/Science teacher/faculty for grades 5-7 to join its team for the school year. CA is in search of a team member who constructs meaningful educational experiences that allow students to solve real-world problems and show they have learned the big ideas, powerful skills, and habits of mind and heart that meet academic standards. Qualified candidates should possess strong oral and written communication skills and be proficient with technology. The ideal candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the content area, current instructional and behavior management techniques, curriculum development, and best practices of 21st-century instruction.

    This position is full time, and the candidate would ideally have competency in teaching both Math/Science to students in grades 5-7.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Evaluate and synthesize, for instructional practices, each student's learning style, motivators, and other factors impacting the student's ability to learn. This includes reviewing and implementing individualized instruction based on each student's Student Action Plan (SAP) and using information and data from a variety of sources to understand all students' instructional needs and progress in accordance with SAP goals.
    • Analyze student data and implement strategies to enable each student to access the curriculum and meet their academic and social goals
    • Develop and monitor classroom materials, including but not limited to lesson plans and curriculum maps, designed to meet content standards, and actively participate in formulating each student's SAP
    • Design, implement, and administer classroom-based assessments to measure progress toward academic standards and diagnose areas of student misunderstanding, as well as refine instructional practices
    • Create and make available daily lesson plans for review by school and department leaders
    • Participate in Faculty, Professional Learning Community, and other committee meetings
    • Communicate regularly with families regarding student performance, including completion (or non-completion) of assignments and "Incomplete" grades for report cards
    • Meet CA's SIS expectations, as communicated by the respective Division Head, to include posting homework and long-term assignments, weekly grade reports, announcements, and necessary class files and links Qualifications
      • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
      • Two years of special education experience at the appropriate grade level is preferred
      • Must be certified in Special Education and/or content area or achieve certification within two years of hire, as required by the Virginia Department of Education
      • Must demonstrate knowledge of the nature and needs of students with learning differences
      • Must demonstrate knowledge of current instructional and behavior management techniques, assistive aids, curriculum scope and sequence, and content area
      • Must demonstrate knowledge of special education best practices
      • Excellent written and oral communication skills
      • Able to change daily routine to meet the changing needs of students
