    The travel and tourism industry is the third largest in Idaho, contributing to more than 49,800 jobs statewide and nearly $1.4 billion in annual wages.

    Visitors to Idaho spend more than $4.8 billion annually. Tourism is an economic, social, and cultural phenomenon for professional, recreational, and personal purposes.

    The Idaho Commerce Tourism Development team takes the lead in showcasing the ways people can enjoy the Gem State through advertising, public relations, social networking, maintaining volumes of information on our main tourism website, , and more.

    The Tourism Manager is responsible for and actively participates with a team of specialists in marketing the State of Idaho as a tourism destination.

    The Tourism Manager champions the Visit Idaho brand, the State of Idaho's consumer tourism marketing program.

    The position requires knowledge of marketing and promotion, strong written and verbal communication skills, strong project management skills, and the ability to build relationships with statewide tourism industry professionals and state and federal agency partners.

    The Tourism Manager is based out of the Idaho Department of Commerce downtown Boise office.

    Responsibilities:

    Program Management:
    + Serves on the Commerce Management Team + Manages Idaho Commerce's tourism development team + Implements consumer and industry marketing programs + Creates and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the success of Visit Idaho's strategic initiatives + Regularly evaluate the impact of projects and adjust strategies as needed + Prepares and monitors the program budget + Trains, assigns work to, motivates, and evaluates performance of program staff + Recommends appropriate performance measurements and issues periodic progress reports + Business Management via LUMA, the state's online enterprise resource planning system Examples of Duties: Serves as a liaison with the Idaho Travel Council + Manages team of tourism specialists + Serves as primary contact for contracted Visit Idaho marketing partners + Develops program goals, objectives, work plans, timelines, and implementation strategies + Implements marketing programs + Manages contracts or memorandums of understanding + Manages research activities + Attends conferences, events, and meetingsrepresenting Idaho + Offers superior customer service while responding to and managing information requests about Idaho tourism Minimum Qualifications (required)

    Experience:
    + Supervising staff or contract employees + Planning and developing marketing and public relations strategies and programs + Planning, negotiating, and implementing projects and resolving conflicts + Creating, organizing, and conducting public meetings, seminars or promotional events Good knowledge of: + Business management and organizational practices Some knowledge of: + Contracts/grants Minimum Qualification Specialties - candidates must meet the qualifications of at least one of the following categories (1 or 2) 1. Travel and Tourism Good knowledge of: + issues related to the travel and tourism industry


    Experience:
    + Developing strategies to promote travel and tourism opportunities. + Marketing and communications + Working with a board or council + Managing a grant program 2.

    Economic Development Good knowledge of public and private sector financing methods and practices

    Experience:
    + Planning and developing economic development + Business development and financing projects

    Preferred Qualifications:
    + Strong leadership qualities to guide and motivate teammembers. + Ability to inspire and drive collaboration among team members and external partners. + Good knowledge of working in a professional capacity with federal, state or local organizations. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas, policies, and plansto internal and external audiences. + Excellent project management skills to manage multiple projects and budgets. + Strong knowledge of and experience with consumer marketing programs. + Bachelor's degree. + Understanding of the travel and tourism industry.
