    Overview

    M&H Valve in Anniston, AL has opportunities for an internship in our safety department.


    The safety internship is designed to help meet the demands of safety compliance and ownership in the manufacturing of valves and hydrants.

    The intern will be assigned hands-on learning projects relating to day-to-day activities of the department to ensure a safety, healthy, and incident-free work environment The intern must be a flexible and adaptable team-player, as well as have good communication skills.

    Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, background screening, and physical.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


    • Proactively promotes The McWane Way
    • Assumes personal responsibility to insure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, and incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.
    • Culture & Facility
    • Develops an understanding of our facility's safety functions and programs
    • Lead safety improvement project(s) aimed at closing the risk gap and/or cultivating a positive safety culture
    • Training & Reporting
    • Assists with the preparation of safety and environmental reporting
    • Works with safety trainer to organize training and maintain associated paperwork
    • Assist with Safety Manual updates.
    • Assist in the communication of safety to employees through group meetings, conferences, orientations, newsletter, etc.
    • Assist with clerical duties to include filing, data entry, making copies, preparing training packets, etc.
    • Safety Audits and Incident Investigations
    • Participate in safety audits and investigations as directed by the Safety Manager.
    • Implement action items as they relate to improvements identified in weekly safety audits
    • Completes root cause analysis and assists with implementation of identified solutions for incident investigations
    Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The individual MUST BE detail oriented, thorough and precise in the completion of tasks assigned and project related paperwork. The individual MUST BE a self-starter with ability to take limited input and direction and achieve the desired goal.     Education and/or Experience


    • Must be actively pursuing a Bachelor's degree in environmental, health and safety or related field.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook required.
    • Must be flexible and adaptable team-player, as well as have good communication skills.
    • Have a good understanding of OSHA standards.
    • This is a part-time temporary position with a variable schedule that may be worked around school schedules. Must be available a minimum of 12 hours per week and up to a maximum of 29 hours per week.
    • Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills
    • Must have positive attitude and good work ethic
    Language Skills

    Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Should be able to speak effectively to customers, management and/or other fellow employees of the organization.

    Reasoning Ability


    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

    Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
