- Manages and oversees classes, clinics, and camps to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
- Utilizes various instructional techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of players.
- Assists with planning and implements the program's instructional goals and objectives to ensure overall player development.
- Collaborates with other developmental sport coaches towards a common goal within the program.
- Establishes performance criteria to evaluate players' athletic abilities initially and regularly.
- Determines program strategy based on participants' capabilities.
- Fosters sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic activity at all times.
- Takes necessary precautions to protect players, equipment, and facilities, including preventing hazing and bullying.
- Maintains and secures all equipment and supplies.
- Oversees the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing athletic equipment.
- Organizes seasonal schedules for upcoming seasons with the Lead Coach.
- Follows established procedures in case of an athlete's injury.
- Represents the LGS Recreation in a professional manner.
- Maintains nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
- Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to enhance coaching performance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Lead Coach or appropriate administrator.
- Knowledge of current coaching techniques and procedures.
- Understanding of NFHS, AAU, and other sport-related rules and regulations.
- Principles and practices of effective coaching techniques and skills.
- Rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
- Rules and regulations of competitive play.
- Standard safety practices.
- Instruct and supervise participants effectively.
- Learn, monitor, and enforce relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- React to and handle emergencies safely and efficiently.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with Academy administrators, staff, parents, and participants.
- Communicate effectively in English through verbal and written means.
- Relate to players and teach them on and off the court.
- Assess players accurately.
- A minimum of two years of experience coaching youth, preferably in middle school or high school settings.
- Experience playing the sport is preferred.
- Stand, stoop, kneel, reach, bend, climb, jump, push, and pull equipment.
- Have sufficient vision and hearing to see and hear adults and children in crowded and noisy conditions.
