Mental Health Counselor - Buffalo, United States - D'Youville University

    Default job background
    Description

The highly visible incumbent is responsible for implementing the mission and vision of D'Youville University and the Division of Student Affairs while serving as a mental health advisor for the campus and licensed mental health provider/educator for the student population. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who thrives amidst an ever-changing and unpredictable work environment and will have demonstrated skills in the areas of mental health, counseling interventions, student support, holistic wellness and preventative programming. This position will work very closely with a fellow mental health counselor and numerous campus partners to ensure that programming and outreach within The Wellness Lodge aligns with current best practices. Evening and weekend hours may be required when the University is in session to manage workload and attend meetings and functions. The primary focus of the Mental Health Counselor will be to manage immediate student crisis situations, develop and implement mental health workshops for the campus community, serve as the mental health advisor for the division, refer students to local care resources as needed, and to connect students with the care services provided to them through TimelyMD. This position will have an opportunity to maintain a caseload of student clients if needed but scheduled clinical services are not the focus of this position. Aligning with the university's goals, the Counselor will facilitate outreach programs and collaborate closely with campus partners to support holistic wellness. This 12-month position is expected to work closely with all units within Student Affairs to ensure that the University is "student-ready" and that every student has the opportunity to be engaged outside of the classroom.

    PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:

    • Promote TimelyMD "Saints Care" as the main provider of mental health care to all students,
    • Serve as a licensed D'Youville representative to receive student case information from TimelyMD mental health providers,
    • Provide at maximum of ten student counseling sessions per week to include clinical services, assessment, consultation, and/or referral,
      • Students requiring more than six 45-minute counseling sessions per semester must be referred to TimelyMD and/or an established mental health community partner,
    • Coordinate with services offered within the D'Youville Health Professions Hub to ensure all students receive holistic care,
    • Dedicate at least eight hours per week to student educational program development and administration,
    • Provide mentorship and guidance to graduate assistants within the Wellness Lodge,
    • Work closely with the Office of Student Development & Advocacy on delivery of drug and alcohol assessment and education,
    • Develop and deliver student leader mental health training for various University departments,
    • Maintain and organize confidential student records,
    • Serve on various campus committees as needed as a mental health advisor,
    • Serve as a campus mental health advisor to faculty and staff as needed,
    • Maintain bi-weekly on-call responsibilities for professional staff consultation needs.
