    The roleMSS instructional leaders combine the ability to coach and motivate teachers as they develop capacity and ability around instructional practices and content knowledge.

    At MSS, an Elementary Academic Dean has a growth mindset and participates in rigorous professional development throughout the year, including collaborative planning sessions, whole and small group school-wide focused professional development, team analysis of performance data; training from: Relay , Responsive Classroom , Eureka Math , Wit and Wisdom ,and Wilsons Fundations and other personalized opportunities to grow.

    Our Academic Deans provide job-embedded professional development for teachers to support and sustain effective teaching and learning through the integration of technology, resulting in improved student learning.

    They will assist teachers and participate directly in small group instruction to advance teachers/students literacy and math skills, provide feedback, and provide support.

    Responsibilities:
    Support outstanding academic achievement and student character developmentBuild classroom community and relationships with families, participating in a powerful team that ensures all students make outstanding academic progressSupport students through direct and small group instructionPlans and supervises purposeful support and development for teachersCreates innovative and common core aligned lesson plansAdapts teaching for the benefit of each student and collaborates with other educators for support and ideasAssesses student learning on a consistent basis and adjusts instruction to meet individual student needsCommits to constant professional and personal growth through reflection, feedback, and collaborationModels MSS Path to Success skills and supports the development of those skills in students and peersPerforms all other duties as assigned by supervisorSkills and Characteristics: A commitment to the mission of Meeting Street Schools, deep love of content, and an unwavering belief that all students can and will succeedStrong instructional and classroom management skillsHigh level of personal organization and planningTeam player: maturity, humility, strong work ethic, follow-through, high EQ, willingness to respond positively to feedback and a whatever it takes attitudeDesire to master content and enthusiasm for subject matterExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalAbility to inspire, motivate and engage childrenProven leadership skillsAbility to kneel, sit, stand for long periods of timeRequired Educational Background and

    Work Experience:

    Bachelors degree required, Masters preferredAt least four years of successful prior experience teaching in under resourced communities, preferredA valid South Carolina professional teacher certificationAt least three years of experience supervising and coaching teachersThe salary for this role will likely be between $70,000-$80,000 with flexibility to negotiate commensurate with experience.

    Academic Deans are also performance award eligible.
