    Job Summary and Qualifications

    Inpatient Hematology BMT Nurse


    The Registered Nurse performs direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act.

    • Utilizes therapeutic communication in daily practice.
    • Maintains a safe therapeutic environment.
    • Identifies nursing problems as they relate to the individual needs of the patient.
    • Registered Nurse plans individualized patient care while utilizing an interdisciplinary approach.
    • Participates in performance improvement activities.
    • Provides care and coordinates participation that fosters the goals of the hospital's mission and vision statement.
    • When acting in charge nurse role, registered nurses are responsible for day-to-day activities to ensure the delivery of quality patient care in a therapeutic environment.
    • Make staff assignments based on patient need, acuity and the skill of the staff.
    • Serve as role models and clinical resource for the staff. Respond in a timely manner to requests for information or follow-up with physician, staff or patient issues.

    What you will do in this role:

    • As the Hematology/Bone Marrow Transplant Registered Nurse, you will deliver phenomenal care for adult hematologic-oncology, autologous and allogeneic blood and marrow transplantation patients, and patients receiving CAR T-cell therapy.
    • In this role, you will be asked to provide the following services: Chemotherapy/Biotherapy administration and management, including investigational protocols, Transfusion of blood, platelets and fresh frozen plasma
    • You will be responsible for the management of patients with radiation implants, central venous access devices and spinal drains.

    We specialize in Hematology Oncology and Transplant Cellular Therapy including stem cell transplants and CAR T-cell therapies. The patients here are more long term as we give them high dose chemotherapy and transplants that require a recovery period. You will give lots of blood transfusions, IV medications & electrolyte replacements, chemotherapy, and research medications that we hope will be the cure for cancer one day. We recognize that oncology is a highly specialized skill and only float our oncology nurses between the medical oncology and BMT unit, as these two units are "closed floating sister units".

    What qualifications you will need:
    • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
    • Registered Nurse: Current TN Licensure or compact licensure.
    • ONS Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate Provider, or ONS Chemo / Biotherapy Fundamentals Provider, or Registered Nurse Diploma, or Bachelors Degree, or Associate Degree must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date
