Job Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Optician / Optical Sales Associate to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of optical products, excellent customer service skills, and familiarity with medical terminology related to ophthalmology. This role involves assisting patients with frame selection, lens options, and optical prescriptions while ensuring a smooth and professional experience. The position offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced clinic environment that values precision, compassion, and technical expertise.
Duties
- Assist patients in selecting eyewear that meets their prescription needs, style preferences, and lifestyle requirements.
- Measure and verify optical prescriptions accurately, utilizing knowledge of anatomy and physiology to ensure proper fit and function.
- Maintain detailed medical records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
- Operate EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic to document patient interactions and clinical notes efficiently.
- Conduct basic laboratory tasks including lens edging, fitting, and adjustments to ensure optimal eyewear performance.
- Educate patients on proper lens care, contact lens use, and eye health maintenance, including pediatrics and senior care considerations.
- Support clinic operations by managing inventory, restocking supplies, and maintaining aseptic techniques during procedures.
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals on clinical cases involving ophthalmology or laboratory experience.
Qualifications
- Prior optical experience with knowledge of optical products, laboratory procedures, and retail sales techniques.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology related to ophthalmology, anatomy, physiology, and medical coding.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms used in clinical settings.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics and senior care.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and best practices for maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Ability to perform vital signs measurement and basic clinical assessments when needed.
- Retail management skills including retail math, sales strategies, and customer service excellence.
