    What you'll do

    As the Mechanical Engineering Group Leader for Spartan RV Chassis (A Shyft Group Brand) based at our brand new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Charlotte, MI, you will be instrumental in shaping the design and evolution of Spartan's range of on-road, heavy-duty truck, and specialized vehicle offerings.

    Your day-to-day will involve designing and developing new and existing products and identifying and completing engineering activities assigned to your group. You will also be expected to oversee resource planning and talent development initiatives under the direction of the Engineering Director.

    Additionally, you will be accountable for offering engineering assistance to production in addressing build and quality concerns, validating design modifications and releases, and establishing workload prioritization for your team.

    You will also:
    • Design, develop, and re-design new and existing products (50%)
    • Function as the primary liaison for the Application Engineers regarding task allocation and prioritization
    • Utilize engineering calculations and layouts to determine, interpret, and set specifications
    • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and direction to your team
    • Complete engineering tasks for production design, product development, and process improvements
    • Complete periodic job performance assessments and provide input to annual performance reviews
    • Maintain the engineering department's resource planning tools
    • Determine engineering requirements and adjust based on current and forecasted workload
    • Deliver training to new associates regarding the scope of their day-to-day
    • Provide support in the areas of hiring, performance, management, transfers, and promotions
    • Motivate, coach, reward, and discipline associates being supervised when necessary
    • Maintain a high degree of visibility and access to associates and resolve personnel issues
    • Stay informed regarding the activities of the team and take corrective actions as necessary
    • Partner cross-functionally to resolve issues and ensure goals are met
    • Provide support to colleagues in the areas of supplier management and customer support

    What you need to be successful
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
    • Five or more (5+) years of engineering expertise related to the design and development of on-highway, heavy truck, specialty, or automotive vehicles
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office
    • CDL license, or willing to obtain (Preferred)
