    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

    Performs moderately complex (journey-level) licensing and permitting work.

    Work involves receiving and reviewing license and permit applications; ensuring compliance with applicable policies, administrative codes, and statutes; communicating with external and internal customers; and approving license and permit applications.

    Obtain information relating to content and application of laws, regulations, procedures and/or other agency actions affecting citizen privileges of licensing to operate a motor vehicle as well as the status of individual cases.

    Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.
    The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position. Applicants must fully complete the summary of experience to determine if minimum qualifications are met.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Receive, review, sort and route mail and other correspondence.2. Lift, push, move or carry baskets, carts or bins for the distribution or destruction of documents.3.

    Provide administrative and technical assistance related to license and permit requirements to the general public, agency staff, and government and elected officials; answer questions and explain licensing and permit codes; and supply information regarding license and permit processing, policies, and procedures.4.

    Communicate and interpret regulated laws, rules, and codes with internal and external customers. 5. Utilize computer applications/programs to research and evaluate information to resolve customer service inquiries related to license related data.6. Review, evaluate and analyze documents to determine compliance with license rules and regulations. Assist in maintaining program data related to licensed or permitted activities.7.

    Maintain records associated with license and permit applications, fee payments, and violations, and complete necessary forms to approve or deny license and permit applications.

    Assist in preparing notices, correspondence, memos, and report related to license and permit activities and compliance.8. Create, maintain, and review activity logs, files, and reports on driver license services.9.

    Assist in processing and approving applications for license and permits based on state regulations, administrative codes, and agency policies and procedures.10.

    Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.11. Perform other duties as assigned.


    Qualifications GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:
    Education – Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.
    Experience – Minimum of one year of work experience in customer service, business administration or clerical support work.
    Licensure and/or Certification – Valid Texas driver license or identification (ID card) required.

    If hired with a valid out of state driver license, a Texas license must be obtained within ninety days of moving to Texas.

    If moving within the state of Texas, a valid Texas license must be obtained within thirty days.
    Regulatory Knowledge – Demonstrate working knowledge of Driver License Division processes and procedures.

    Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies, and procedures.

    Technology (computers/hardware/software/operating systems) – Skill in the use of standard office equipment, computers, and computer software. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

    Ability to use standard office equipment such as a calculator or adding machine, automated equipment and software, copier, facsimile, and folding or labeling machines.

    Interpersonal Skills – Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy, and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.

    Organizational and Prioritization Skills – Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment; able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness, or professionalism.

    Presentation/Communication Skills – Must demonstrate an ability to participate in projects as subject matter experts, follow project management methodologies and ensure timely completion of assigned projects.

    Must be able to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional presentations to a variety of audiences and/or individuals. Working knowledge of business office practices of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and composition. Ability to understand and effectively apply complex oral and written instructions and procedures.

    Research and Comprehension – Must demonstrate ability to quickly and efficiently access relevant information, and be able to utilize and/or present research and conclusions in a clear and concise manner.

    Knowledge of office practices; of administrative and technical procedures; and of applicable policies, administrative codes, and statutes is required.

    Analytical Reasoning/Attention to Detail – Must demonstrate an ability to examine data/information, discern variations/similarities, and be able identify trends, relationships, and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems.

    Confidentiality and Protected Information – Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance, and dissemination of information.

    Safety – Must be able to work in safe manner at all times, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and must be able to comply with safety standards and best practices.

    Schedule and/or Remote/Telecommuting work – This position requires the possibility of extended work hours as early as 7:00 am to as late as 10:00 pm.

    Weekend work may be required.

    Depending on assigned service area, it will require working in an office daily, telecommuting or rotating between working in an office and telecommutingPHYSICAL and/or ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
