    Position Summary:
    Leads crew on jobsite. Reads drawings and bills of materials.

    Lays out, assembles, installs, repairs and maintains pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for fire sprinkler systems.

    The successful candidate will be an ambitious self-starter, possess good oral and written communication skills, and is punctual. This is a career position with great opportunity for increased responsibility and advancement.


    Primary Duties:

    • Manage civilian and military jobsites to include inventory and control of material, manage access and work schedule with owners and superintendents, and supervise other workers assigned to the job.
    • Using engineered drawings & job specifications, selects type and size of pipe, and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to plans and specifications.
    • Inspects work site to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that holes cut for pipe will not cause structural weakness.
    • Plans installation or repair to avoid obstructions and to avoid interfering with activities of other workers.
    • Cuts, threads, and grooves pipe.
    • Assembles and installs variety of metal and nonmetal pipes, tubes, and fittings, including iron, steel, copper, and plastic.
    • Connects pipes, using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.
    • Secures pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers.
    • Installs and maintains hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment such as pumps and cylinders.
    • Installs and maintains sprinkler systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping.
    • Increases pressure in pipe system and observes connected pressure gauge to test system for leaks.
    • Operates system valves to verify correct operation.
    • Maintains a secure project site for equipment, tools and materials.
    • Oversees worker safety.
    • Assists with project quotations, participates in jobsite walks.
    • Reviews crew timesheets for correctness
    • Keeps project on-schedule and on-budget.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Supervisory Responsibilities


    • This position will supervise pipe fitters and other support crew on the jobsite.
    Minimum Qualifications

    Individual must be able to perform each primary duty above satisfactorily. The minimum qualifications below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and experience required.

    Qualifications - Travel


    • Travel - Must be able to travel regionally up to 80% of the time.
    Qualifications - Tests, Certificates, Licenses and Registrations


    • Possess or obtain valid New Mexico Driver's License (Real ID Qualified) prior to start date.
    • Insurable.
    • Pass a drug and alcohol screening
    • Pass a criminal background check
    • Be able to legally work in the United States
    • Possess a NM MS12J Journeyman certificate.
    Qualifications - Minimum Education and/or Experience

    Language & Mathematical Skills


    • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, fills out daily reports. Ability to write simple correspondence.

    Ability to present job information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.


    • Basic math skills; addition, subtraction, multiplication, division; calculation of percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
    • PC and smartphone literate, MS office basic skills.
