    Monitors work to ensure a safe, supportive and productive learning environment for all students participating in tutoring environments. Monitors oversee these learning environments and are expected to demonstrate leadership and communication skills appropriate for this role. Monitors work in various locations during day time and evening hours.

    Monitor Primary Activities


    • Monitor students in assigned areas and follow established protocols to ensure all rules are enforced.
    • Participate in debriefing sessions.
    • Attend Monitor training workshop prior to the beginning of each term.
    • Maintain appropriate professional attitudes and behaviors to staff, students and others.
    Training Process

    If a student is hired for a position, the following mandatory training will be implemented. If you do not complete the training as scheduled, you will not start in the position in Fall 2019.

    Student must complete tax paperwork Tax paperwork may be completed individually and brought to Human Resources.

    A training process will occur at the beginning of each semester

    All students who wish to hold the position in the next academic year must complete all training.

    Monitor Qualifications


    • An overall GPA of 2.3 or above is required.
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills are required.
    • An ability to confront students and follow through with consequences is required.
    • An ability to be proactive in difficult situations is required.
    • Demonstrable leadership qualities.
    • Two letters of recommendation from North Central College faculty or staff are required. These letters must support items 2-5 above.
    • Applicant will be interviewed by the Director, Student Academic Success Programs.

    Hiring Process

    The hiring process will be completed at the Center for Student Success through individual appointments. Each student will be interviewed by a team. The team may include Center for Student Success staff and/or at least 2-3 current student workers. This process will take place during weeks 9-10 of Winter Term. Only applicants who have submitted all their paperwork will be eligible for an interview. During this interview process, applicants may demonstrate they are able to complete job tasks through simulated activities.

    Students will be notified of hiring decisions through email by week 10 of winter term.

    If a student is hired, the student must complete all tax paperwork by the end of week 5 of spring term.
