DESC (Downtown Emergency Service Center) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, and serious mental illness in achieving optimal health and well-being through comprehensive services, treatment, and housing.
Our vision is to create a community where no one is left behind, neglected, or facing homelessness.
As a leading service provider for multiply disabled adults dealing with chronic homelessness in the region, DESC assists nearly 2,000 individuals daily.
Recognized nationally and regionally for its innovative approach to addressing homelessness, DESC focuses on helping individuals secure and maintain suitable, safe, and affordable housing.
Join our team at the forefront of crisis intervention.
DESC's Mobile Crisis Team Crisis Outreach Specialists are ready to promptly address requests for crisis intervention from various entities like police, fire, medics, and the Crisis Clinic. Their goal is to connect individuals in mental health or substance use crises to more therapeutic treatment alternatives instead of resorting to jail or emergency rooms.
We aim to combat the tendency to criminalize mental illness and ensure individuals in mental health crises receive the necessary support.
The team operates across King County in diverse community environments and all weather conditions.
Employee benefits include generous paid time off starting at 34 days within the initial two years of service and full employer-paid medical & dental insurance.
MCT Crisis Outreach Specialists also have the opportunity for on-the-job clinical supervision leading to full social work licensure.
The role involves various physical tasks essential for job performance. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities. Candidates should be prepared to sit, drive, walk, stand, communicate effectively, lift items weighing up to 10 pounds, and operate computer systems. The position may entail considerable stress and work in indoor and outdoor settings under different weather conditions.
DESC upholds workplace diversity and equal employment opportunities. Discrimination based on race, creed, color, gender, age, or disability is strictly prohibited. Members of minority groups and veterans are encouraged to apply.
