    About DESC:

DESC (Downtown Emergency Service Center) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, and serious mental illness in achieving optimal health and well-being through comprehensive services, treatment, and housing.

Our vision is to create a community where no one is left behind, neglected, or facing homelessness.

As a leading service provider for multiply disabled adults dealing with chronic homelessness in the region, DESC assists nearly 2,000 individuals daily.

Recognized nationally and regionally for its innovative approach to addressing homelessness, DESC focuses on helping individuals secure and maintain suitable, safe, and affordable housing.

    JOB DEFINITION:
Join our team at the forefront of crisis intervention.

DESC's Mobile Crisis Team Crisis Outreach Specialists are ready to promptly address requests for crisis intervention from various entities like police, fire, medics, and the Crisis Clinic. Their goal is to connect individuals in mental health or substance use crises to more therapeutic treatment alternatives instead of resorting to jail or emergency rooms.

We aim to combat the tendency to criminalize mental illness and ensure individuals in mental health crises receive the necessary support.

The team operates across King County in diverse community environments and all weather conditions.

Employee benefits include generous paid time off starting at 34 days within the initial two years of service and full employer-paid medical & dental insurance.

MCT Crisis Outreach Specialists also have the opportunity for on-the-job clinical supervision leading to full social work licensure.

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Collaborate with first responders and other sources to provide timely outreach services, assessments, and referrals for individuals in crisis situations.
    • Conduct multi-axial assessments, crisis intervention, and stabilization for referred adults, both in the field and at the Crisis Diversion Facility.
    • Develop and implement engagement plans to connect clients with essential services and resources.
    • Offer follow-up services to ensure clients are linked to appropriate programs.
    • Complete all necessary data collection and documentation.
    • Foster positive relationships with service providers and comply with organizational policies and regulations.
    • Advocate for clients' access to services, coordinate with community providers, and participate in training sessions and reviews.
    • Provide necessary support in emergent situations, maintain building security, and adhere to safety protocols.
    • Stay connected with the neighborhood to ensure its safety and security.
    • Fulfill any other assigned duties.

The role involves various physical tasks essential for job performance. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities. Candidates should be prepared to sit, drive, walk, stand, communicate effectively, lift items weighing up to 10 pounds, and operate computer systems. The position may entail considerable stress and work in indoor and outdoor settings under different weather conditions.

    EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER:

DESC upholds workplace diversity and equal employment opportunities. Discrimination based on race, creed, color, gender, age, or disability is strictly prohibited. Members of minority groups and veterans are encouraged to apply.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Possess a current Washington Department of Health Agency Affiliated Counselor credential.
    • Hold a Master's degree in social work, psychology, or related behavioral science, or a Bachelor of Nursing degree with a mental health specialization.

    • Hold a valid Washington state driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record.
    • Comfortable working with clients from diverse backgrounds and assisting those in crisis situations.
    • Familiarity with crisis response systems and community resources in King County.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain client confidentiality.
    • Adhere to principles of client empowerment and dignity.
