    Description

    Are you passionate about ensuring safety and compliance within asbestos abatement practices? Join our team as an Asbestos Abatement Technician, where you'll play a pivotal role in adhering to EPA, AHERA, OSHA, State of Alaska, and industry standards.

    Your responsibilities will encompass the meticulous installation and management of regulated areas and critical barriers, employing effective emission control methods to prevent asbestos exposure to workers, occupants, and the environment.


    • Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to asbestos maintenance and abatement.
    • Ability to pass yearly asbestos physical and respirator fit test.
    • Ability to travel to remote sites throughout Alaska to perform work.
    • Ability to follow oral and written directions; learn operating policies and procedures; comprehend written material; establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work.
    • Knowledge of insulating and lagging with fiberglass and Flexible closed cell insulation is preferred.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals and technical procedures.
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management.
    • Ability to work independently and in a group setting including following, interpreting, and communicating instructions given by management; relating to management and other employees in a positive manner; making efforts to solve crew conflicts; and assisting in providing a productive and safe work environment.
    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as pressures, frequency, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
    • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
    Some related experience and/or training.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • One to three years of asbestos maintenance and abatement experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of


    education and experience on flooring, ceiling tiles, mastic, Thermal Systems Insulation (TSI) and miscellaneous materials such as caulking, transite, pipe, adhesive, etc.


    • Possess a current State of Alaska 40-Hour Asbestos Abatement Worker/Supervisor Certificate of Fitness or equivalent. Maintaining the State of Alaska Certificate of Fitness is a condition of employment, maintenance of such license is at the employer's expense.
    • Possess a valid driver's license at all times.

    Position Details:
    This position is located on the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position with a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.

    Salary Information:
    CT1/Step 1 $24.36/hr. (See Article 9.2 in the L6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wage Grade Schedule).
