    Primary Responsibilities

    In partnership with the Middle School Head, the Assistant Middle School Head is responsible for supporting the Middle School Head and faculty in programmatic and academic endeavors while upholding the mission of the school.

    Works in partnership with the Middle School Head to complement and strengthen the leadership of the division and learn from and with current leadership.
    • Develop, lead, and inspire mission driven programming aimed at building school community both in the division and school wide.
    • A strong commitment to DEIB and how that work supports students, teachers, and families in their Middle School experience.
    • Have a deep understanding of the developmental, social, and academic needs of middle school girls and students in 7th and 8th grade including social media, social awareness, differentiation, etc.
    • Collaborate on parent programming to support middle school families.
    • Lead the Middle School in the absence of the Middle School Head.
    • Co-Lead Middle School Student Council with Middle School Head.
    • Lead and coordinate the co-curricular program both within the division and school wide.


    Member of the Middle School Leadership Team
    • Create a positive environment to ensure student safety, discipline, academic growth, and social/emotional development as well as to support the mission of the School.
    • Collaborate to facilitate the day to day operations as well as the big picture perspective of the Middle School.
    • With the Middle School Head, oversee the calendar for the current school year and plan the calendar for the upcoming school year.
    • Publicly represent the Middle School at events for current and prospective families.


    Teach two sections of a class

    • Previous experience working with and a deep appreciation for Middle School-aged students.
    • Displays empathy and effective communication with diverse groups of people and mentors and models for a culture of inclusion and collaboration.
    • Proven cross-cultural competency skills demonstrating self-awareness, awareness of others, and the ability to foster inclusive perspectives, attitudes, and behaviors in oneself and others to drive inclusion and belonging in the ongoing development and maintenance of an inclusive campus community.
    • A sense of humor to enjoy lighthearted moments, a sense of gravitas when needed, and the awareness of when each is appropriate.
    • Effective time management and executive functioning skills.
    • Patience with colleagues, students, and families when working through complex situations.
    • Nimbleness and flexibility and a sense of knowing when to employ them.
    • Displays and conveys a learner's mindset and can build energy and create pathways for others to grow their leadership.
    • Strong communication skills as a speaker, writer, and listener.
    • Ability to foster strong relationships with key stakeholders such as Middle School students, families, faculty, and staff.
    • Comfort with risk management and financial acumen.
    • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment when interacting with faculty, staff, students, and parents/guardians.
    • Ability to problem solve and consider multiple outcomes when building strategies and making decisions.


    Required Skills and Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred.
    • Three to five years of teaching experience.
    • Academic leadership experience.
    • Proficiency in or ability to learn Veracross, Canvas, Google, Outlook or comparable systems.
