    SUMMARY:


    Under general supervision of the Food Services Director and the Clinical Nutrition Manager, the Registered Dietitian performs as a member of the interdisciplinary team responsible for the design, coordination, and implementation of Medical Nutrition Therapy and education to meet the needs of identified populations in accordance with established standards of care.


    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Completes nutrition assessments within 24 hours of receiving nursing and physician consults and verbal requests.
    • Performs nutritional assessment using age appropriate and disease specific standards.
    • Effectively interviews patients and evaluates information to include nutrition related diagnosis when indicated.
    • Develops personalized, age-specific, culturally appropriate interventions to address identified nutrition problems.
    • Documents all aspects of nutrition care in accordance with department policies and professional standards.
    • Monitors (reassesses) and evaluates patient response to interventions using specific goals and determines change if indicated.
    • Effectively prioritize workload for optimal patient visitation and time utilization.
    • Performs patient and/or family education related to nutrition therapy as appropriate to setting.
    • Coordinates/interacts with multidisciplinary team in an effective manner.
    • Utilizes and helps maintain up to date educational materials that are professional and available on several levels of learning.
    • Participates in patient care rounds, discharge planning, and patient care conferences as appropriate for clinical setting.
    • Provides supervised learning experiences for dietetic interns when appropriate.
    • Collaborates and communicates with Food & Nutrition staff effectively.
    • Improves self knowledge on current nutrition topics & evidence based guidelines through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes in areas of practice.
    • Attends all mandatory education programs.
    • Maintains required competency levels as identified in skills checklist, and skills labs.
    • Participates in performance improvement programs related to patient care and service (chart audits, tray assessments).
    • Submits all requred documentation, reports, and logs in a timely fashion and in a professional and complete manner as requested.
    • Demonstrates ability to educate employees, health care professionals, and the public as evidenced by presenting at least 1 educational opportunities annually (verbal or written).
    • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
    • Understands and adheres to compliance standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflicts of Interest Policy.
    • Demonstrates age-specific skills as required by position.
    • Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
    • Attends all mandatory education programs.
    • Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.
    • Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
    • Willing to cross-train in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in department.
    • Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
    • Manages resources effectively.
    • Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment.
    • Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.

    EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Related Field

    CREDENTIALS:

    • Registered Dietitian

    OTHER INFORMATION:

    • Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field, required.
    • Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, required.
