    Join our progressive, positive office environment as a legal assistant for two attorneys in downtown Portland. One of the attorneys practices involves probates, estate planning and protective proceedings. The other attorneys practice involves criminal defense in state and federal court.

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    The ideal candidate must be extremely organized, tech savvy and excellent at cataloging and managing a large number of tasks and files

    The position is in a small business so diligence, creativity, independence and self-direction is a must

    Must be able to maintain confidentiality, work with a wide variety of clients in stressful situations.

    Communicate clearly by phone or in person with clients, support staff, attorneys and courts

    Be familiar with office equipment including copier, scanner, computers and multi-line phone systems

    Ability to multitask essential as we work in a fast-paced, team-focused office environment

    Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel); scheduling and organization skills a must

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including business correspondence, document preparation, editing, phone calls and in person meetings

    No prior legal assistant experience is required

    *Prior office-environment experience preferred

    Responsibilities

    Manage and update calendar; document and monitor deadlines

    Handle initial client screening through phone calls or email

    Prepare legal correspondence, documentation, and other materials

    Collect, organize, upload, share legal documents

    Use legal software to maintain files

    Scan and save file materials

    Collect and deliver materials within downtown Portland

    e-filing in State and Federal Court

    Preparation of materials for hearings, trials and estate plans.

    Communicate with clients, courts and others via phone, email, text and mail.

    Must be conscientious with highly confidential information

    General assistance with running small business

    Full-time in-office job, Monday-Friday

    Details and Compensation

    Salaried position based on hourly rate of $24 per hour/$50,000 per year

    Employer-paid health insurance beginning on the first of the month after hire
