    Job Summary

    :

    Performs a variety of routine and complex clerical accounting functions, and administers the day-to-day operations of the Great Plains Accounting Program for an assigned region by using a fuctionalized double-entry accounting package. Serves as accounting support between the assigned local units and Divisional Headquarters.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Prepares and processes one or more of the following financial documents: invoices, checks, check requests, and deposits; reviews and verifies the same for accuracy and completeness.

    Posts and tracks payments to ledgers; tracks balances of the same; ensures appropriate staff remain aware of account balances.

    Receives, records, and posts cash receipts; prepares daily tabulations and reports and cash receipts; distributes receipts to proper funds; makes daily entries into cash receipts ledger.

    Assists in preparing and reviewing various financial and statistical reports and spreadsheets for accuracy and completeness; may prepare schedule of errors.

    Verifies accurate code numbers to financial documents and batches totals; keypunches information into the computer to generate checks, invoices, reports, spreadsheets, and financial documents.

    Researches and reconciles accounts to ensure financial documents, correspondence, invoices, payments, spreadsheets, etc. are accurate.

    Performs data entry of financial information to prepare spreadsheet and general ledger programs for bookkeeping and reporting purposes.

    Maintains accurate and complete filers of accounts payable reports, accounts receivable reports, and general journal adjustment reports.

    Assists supervisors in various areas of accounting and finance as needed

    Receives and processes in-going and out-going mail in an accurate and timely manner.

    Provides clerical support for special projects or to relieve other clerical positions as needed.

    Provides assistance in the mail room, kitchen, and receptionist relief as scheduled.

    Knowledge of the practices and procedures of basic accounting and/or bookkeeping.

    Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.

    Performs other duties as assigned .

    Certificates/Licenses:

    May require valid State Driver's License.

    Education and Experience:

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field, and two years progressively responsible experience performing double-entry computerized accounting work with Great Plains accounting experience preferred.

    OR

    Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

    Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
    Ability to organize and maintain files of accounting records.

    Ability to apply attention to detail and to perform assigned work at a level of proficiency that will limit the impact of errors.

    Ability to process financial documents in compliance with established policies and procedures.

    Ability to communicate in an effective and professional manner with assigned corps. units.

    Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial records.

    Ability to meet attendance and work performance requirements.

    Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

    Ability to keypunch information into a computer.

    Ability to perform mathematical calculations.

    Ability to sort and file documents alphabetically and numerically.

    Ability to operate various general office equipment including a telephone, computer, fax machine, and adding machine.

    Ability to work well under the pressure of deadlines.

    Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in concentration associated with answering phones.

    Duties are usually performed seated; sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.

    Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs._ 5-10% or work time.

    Working Conditions:

    Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
