    The Robert M.

    Berne Cardiovascular Research Center (CVRC) is currently seeking a Laboratory and Research Specialist to become the main point of contact for the centers immunohistochemical needs.

    This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to train for the next 6-9 months with our highly talented core manager and move to potentially managing the CVRC Histology Core in the future.

    The CVRC is a highly vibrant and active community of 11 resident faculty labs and over 100 member labs.

    The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial personality with a strong work ethic and desire to help others be successful.

    Duties include, but are not limited to, embedding, fixation, sectioning, adipocyte cell measuring, histochemical and immunostaining, immunofluorescence, etc.


    The successful candidate will also work with and train students, post-docs, and other members of our labs to assist in conducting all aspects of experiments involving immunohistochemical areas.

    The position requires coordinating research projects and logistics with other lab members; compliance with University, Federal, and State policies and procedures; consulting with the Principle Investigator regularly; and oversight of laboratory purchasing, equipment, and supplies required for operation of the laboratory.


    The individual should be self-guided and creative in seeking possible solutions to experimental/design challenges at hand and have strong communication skills.

    Preference to those with histological understanding.

    This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.


    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    Lab Specialist


    Education:
    Bachelor's degree.

    Experience: 3 years of experience. 6 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.

    Lab Specialist Intermediate


    Education:
    Bachelor's degree.

    Experience: 6 years of experience in a lab technician role. Master's degree may substitute for required experience. 9 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.

    Lab Specialist Senior


    Education:
    Bachelor's degree.

    Experience: 9 years of experience in a lab technician role.

    May substitute with Master's or Terminal degree plus 4 years of experience in a lab technician role and supervisory experience.

    12 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.
