Job Description
This is a remote position.
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Engineer responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) infrastructure, with a particular focus on transitioning from traditional Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) systems to modern VoIP solutions.
This role is critical to ensuring the seamless operation of our voice communication systems, enhancing our capabilities, and meeting the evolving needs of our customers.
TDM to VoIP Transition:
Lead the migration of our existing TDM-based systems to advanced VoIP technology, ensuring minimal disruption to services during the transition process.
Implement and maintain E911 (Enhanced 911) and NG-911 (Next Generation 911) systems, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and standards for emergency services.
System Design and Implementation:
Design and deploy robust VoIP solutions, including SIP trunking, VoIP gateways, and session border controllers (SBCs), to support telecommunications infrastructure.
Performance Monitoring and Optimization:
Monitor system performance, identify and resolve issues, and optimize configurations to ensure high quality of service (QoS) for voice communications.
Security and Risk Management:
Implement security measures to protect against unauthorized access and potential threats to the VoIP infrastructure. Ensure robust disaster recovery and business continuity plans are in place.
Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
Provide expert technical support, troubleshooting complex issues related to VoIP systems and ensuring timely resolution to maintain service levels.
Collaboration and Training:
Work closely with IT and network teams to ensure seamless integration of VoIP systems. Provide training and support to staff on new technologies and procedures.
Documentation:
Maintain detailed documentation for system designs, configurations, procedures, and service records.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field,
OR
10 years' experience with certifications
such as CCNA Voice, CCNP Collaboration, or Avaya Professional Design Specialist (APDS).
Proven experience as a VoIP Engineer or in a similar role, with a deep understanding of VoIP technologies and TDM systems.
Familiarity with legacy 5ESS TDM connected PBX switches and all remotely connected devices such as Key Services Units and Remote PBX endpoints.
Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP), SIP, RTP, and QoS principles.
Experience with VoIP systems design, implementation, and support, including SIP trunking and session border controllers.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
DoD Centric Concepts of Operations:
Familiarity with DoD Voice and VoIP deliveries across the multiple MILDEP services is a strong plus
