Opportunity SummaryThe Control Room Operator oversees safe and efficient operation of power plant equipment, ensuring adherence to regulatory codes and plant procedures, while actively contributing to problem-solving efforts and maintaining accurate records of plant operations.
They play a crucial role in maintaining a clean work environment and preventing equipment failures through continuous monitoring and timely intervention.
Primary FunctionsEnsures adherence to all procedures outlined in the safe work practices manual.Demonstrates understanding and compliance with all regulatory codes and regulations.
Operates plant equipment safely and within environmental limits to meet production schedules.
Utilizes prescribed plant operating procedures to adjust manual controls, ensuring equipment operates within recommended or prescribed ranges, facilitates backup system activation, or executes equipment shutdown procedures as necessary.
Ensures the safe and efficient operation of all equipment, including combustion turbines, HRSGs, steam turbines, generators, and auxiliaries.Monitors equipment performance continuously, identifying and promptly addressing any issues to prevent equipment failures.
Actively participates as a contributing member of the shift team.
Maintains compliance with the Lock Out / Tag Out process.
Keeps accurate records of plant operations.
Contributes to problem-solving efforts, from diagnosis to implementing countermeasures.
Demonstrates understanding and adherence to plant procedures.
Supports the maintenance of a clean work environment.

Working RelationshipsThe Control Room Operator reports to the Operations ManagerPhysical Requirements and Working ConditionsPhysical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.Fitness for DutyAll employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
Work ScheduleThe standard work schedule consists of alternating seven-day shifts: seven days on duty followed by seven days off duty, followed by seven nights on duty, and then another seven days off duty.
Each shift lasts for 12 hours, from 6 AM to 6 PM and 6pm to 6am.Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions.
"On call" status will periodically be required.CompensationThe initial starting hourly rate of pay will range from $32.88 to $46.06 per hour depending on applicable experience.
Job QualificationsAbility to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school is requiredAn associate degree in a technical field is preferred but not required.
Experience operating and monitoring equipment from a control room is preferred.Prior experience or knowledge of performing start-up and shut-down procedures in a power plant is desirable.
Experience in working with power plant equipment, systems, and processes, either operationally or in maintenance roles, is preferred.
A solid theoretical foundation and practical familiarity with gas turbine operations, as well as various power plant technologies including steam turbines, boilers, generators, and control systems, are expected.
Proficiency in interpreting piping and instrument schematics and understanding process controls is necessary.Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills are a must.
Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License at all times.
