    Description

    Under the direction of a Certified Tumor Registrar, Practice Manager, Clinical Manager and Director the CTR in training reviews the records of patients diagnosed, treated, or followed for cancer. CTR in training completes case finding to collect diagnostic, prognostic, treatment, and survival data for the purpose of monitoring/analyzing cancer incidence, treatment, outcomes, performance improvement and subsequently assisting with administrative planning and marketing, support programs, and research activities. Will be able to Interpret data for research projects as well compiles non-analytic data for facility and state databases. Maintains oncology registry database in compliance with Commission on Cancer (CoC) standards.

    The following list describes the essential duties of this role. Individuals in this role may not perform all these duties, or may perform additional, related duties not listed here.

    1. Identify reportable and non-reportable neoplasms to be included in the registry as outlined by CoC standards and reporting requirements.
    2. Create suspense files for identified reportable neoplasms by abstracting information from the patient medical record to include demographic characteristics, history of neoplasm, primary site, histology, laterality, case finding source, location of diagnosis, managing physician, type of diagnostic confirmation and name of referring facility.
    3. Perform oncology coding and abstraction of identified non-reportable neoplasms for inclusion in the registry database in compliance with standards set by the CoC, Cancer Committee guidelines and departmental standards.
    4. Transfer AJCC staging from EHR into cancer registry database for analytic cases abstracted.
    5. Collect survivorship data for all applicable newly diagnosed cancer patients to include medical status, first recurrence, death and autopsy information from patient medical records or letters to provide end results information.
    6. Qualitative analysis follow ups – Perform a comprehensive review of data entered for each patient to ensure the completion and accuracy of the data elements.
    7. Assist with room and audiovisual equipment set up and coordinating bi-monthly oncology conferences and quarterly CoC meetings.
    8. Maintain competency and stay abreast of current literature and trends by participating in at least one cancer-related educational activity at the local level in accordance with CoC standards.
    9. Perform other job-related tasks as assigned by Cancer Registry Manager.

    Successful completion of Reid Hospital orientation and competency-based skills appropriate through ongoing assessment of competence and educational activities. Written evaluations are done on an annual basis.

    1. CTR-eligible college graduate preferred.
    2. Ability to sit for and successfully pass CTR certification within 3 months of completion of education.

    Education Required: Graduate of an approved school of Certified Tumor Registrar within one year of hire. Ideally, approaching graduation.

    Experience Preferred: Minimum one-year experience.

    Day Shift. 40 hours weekly. Monday - Friday 8am to 4:30pm.
    Occasionally, reporting at 7:00am for scheduled Oncology meetings.
