    Job Summary

    The Dean functions as the chief executive officer of a major unit engaged in programmatic aspect of the Campus/University mission.

    Responsible for administration and execution of the unit's policies.

    Job Description

    • Provide leadership, direction, and overall administration for the development, coordination, and
    implementation of programs, activities, and professional services.


    • Formulate, initiate, implement, and interpret policies relating to the operation of the units.
    • Establish goals and objectives for the units reporting to the Dean's Office.
    • Responsible for planning, evaluation, staffing, and resource allocation for all units reporting to
    the Dean's Office.


    • Communicate with and serve as a resource to colleges, departments, campus offices,
    community organizations, regarding services and issues.


    • Serve on committees as assigned
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Provost or President.
    Minimum Qualifications

    Earned Ph.
    D. in an academic discipline housed in the College

    Record of achievement, with increasing administrative responsibility, in a comprehensive university environment.

    Tenured with Experience teaching at the college level.

    Evidence of intellectual and scholarly achievements.

    Experience in administering grants

    Problem-solver.

    Scholarly record and active interest in the scholarship of faculty within the units.


    An excellent record of scholarly achievement in research/creative activities and teaching that meets qualifications for tenure at the rank of full professor.

    Experience with accreditation at an institution of higher learning.


    Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of students, faculty, and staff.

    An understanding of the breadth of disciplines found in the College of Arts & Sciences.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    (A). Must have a proven and demonstrated an outstanding record in teaching, mentoring, and directing research of undergraduate and graduate students; a commitment to shared governance, indicators of innovative planning, outcomes and administrative flexibility; and a strong record of grantsmanship. S/he must demonstrate a deep understanding of retention and timely graduation with a particular emphasis on culturally diverse and non-traditional student populations.

    (B). Must demonstrate awareness of current local, national, and international opportunities in higher education; especially, use of technology and industrial partnership, and must have the vision and ability to harness them to advance the progress of the college.
    . Lead the faculty in governance, promoting a culture of excellence and service, and fostering research and innovation. Engage in strategic planning, allocating resources, recruiting outstanding faculty, and the ability to progressively lead the college toward great academic purpose.
