    Position description

    School of Medicine

    Department of Radiological Sciences

Position: Health Sciences Clinical Instructor - Musculoskeletal Radiology fellowship at University of California Irvine-Tibor Rubin Long Beach VA Medical Center

We are currently accepting applications for fellowship positions in the Department of Radiological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine-Tibor Rubin Long Beach VA Medical Center for the academic year

Musculoskeletal Radiology fellowships at the University of California Irvine are at the level of Health Sciences Clinical Instructor, and this one position is located at Long Beach Veterans Administration. This position will have the benefits administered through the University of California, Irvine.

Our mission, within the Department, and in a broader context as a University of California School of Medicine campus, is to provide an excellent educational experience so as to produce highly trained fellows who will go on to become leaders in their subfields. We believe that we provide an optimal combination of study volume, procedure volume, experience with sequencing/protocoling, academic time, and optional research time, to produce very knowledgeable, balanced radiologists, with cutting edge knowledge of their subspecialties.

This one-year fellowship is primarily supervised by two fellowship trained musculoskeletal radiologists (Farzad Rezai, MD and Andrew Chang, MD) who are known for their teaching excellence. The program provides experience in image-guided interventional orthopaedic procedures, including arthrography, joint aspiration, soft tissue and bone biopsy techniques and orthopaedic pain management procedures (fluoroscopic and CT guided steroid and anesthetic injections). Advanced training is provided in interpretation of musculoskeletal radiography, CT and MRI. The opportunity exists for the MSK fellow to learn neuro and body MRI from fellowship trained experts in these subspecialties as well.

Each month, nine UC Irvine Radiology residents rotate through the VA Long Beach Medical Center. Successful applicants will be Health Sciences Clinical Instructors at the UC Irvine School of Medicine. The fellow will participate in the teaching of UC Irvine residents and medical students, actively participate in interdisciplinary conferences, and take an active part in the ongoing research projects and publications of the section.
