    Primary Function of the Position

    Under the direction of the President and CEO, this position is responsible for the strategic direction and activities of the development department and the supervision of Development staff. The Director of Fund Development works in close partnership with the executive team and is responsible for developing and driving development strategies that grow the organization while supporting current services and programs.

    The candidate must demonstrate a strong work ethic, as well as integrity, accountability, and high performance in previous work experiences. The best candidate for this position is someone who can align themselves to our outcomes driven culture and understands the unique challenges of an immigrant and refugee communities. The successful candidate has had successful experience fundraising at all levels from individual donors, community partnerships, government, private foundations, on-line fundraising experience, and more.

    Position Responsibilities
    • Strategize and implement a comprehensive fundraising program to include grant-writing, donor campaigns, annual fundraising events, new initiatives funding, etc.
    • Supervise and lead a development team of staff and interns/graduate students
    • Cultivate relationships with current and new foundations/funders/donors
    • Oversee and direct the on-going data management of Salesforce, HAPs fund development software
    • Oversee and direct the on-going grant management system that includes: new contracts, renewals, budget modifications, funder communication, and more
    • Oversee and manage communications, public relations, and marketing strategies and initiatives that include: social media, websites, press releases, and HAPs brand identity
    • Lead the efforts in government, foundation, and partner proposal planning, preparation, and assist in writing
    • Direct the efforts of Development staff and Impact Area leaders in report writing, communication protocols and processes, and evaluations that support funder driven outcomes
    • Work closely with Development staff in the submission of proposals
    • Analyze fund development activity data to strengthen fundraising activities
    • Work closely and coordinate the fund development activities of the Board of Directors
    • Other duties as assigned, and as needed, to further the goals of the program and in alignment with HAPs mission.
    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
    • Specialized training in: MS Office and Software, fundraising software, Salesforce is preferred
    • Knowledge of non-profit fundraising activities, trends, and resources
    • Ability to work with diverse staff and organizations and provide effective supervision
    • Solid understanding of the issues, challenges, and needs of immigrant/refugees, low-income families, and vulnerable populations
    • Ability to interpret legislation and regulations and effectively implement into fundraising goals
    • Demonstrated ability to manage and track multiple tasks/projects simultaneously as well as manage conflicting priorities
    • Effective leadership style that promotes positive team building and collaboration across Impact Areas
    • Ability to achieve fundraising and compliance outcomes in a pro-active, timely manner
    • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality work product within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects
    Education and Experience
    • B.A. Required with a minimum of seven years of relevant experience or a M.A. degree and a minimum of four years of experience in a role of increasing responsibility and leadership in fundraising
    • Must have strong experience and track record of success in fundraising in a broad set of program areas that include: workforce development, housing and economic development, children and family services, health and wellness, education services, and social enterprises
    • Must demonstrate ability to fund raise for multi-year and multi-million dollar grants
    • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills including social media and communications strategies
    • Experience in writing grants for the immigrant/refugee population highly preferred

    • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for sustained periods of time in an indoor setting
    • Ability to tolerate moderate noise levels (i.e. shared open office space with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
    • Must have the ability to move about the office to access files and office equipment
    • Must have access to reliable transportation for occasional travel for meetings at other HAP office locations, events and offsite meetings.
    • Occasional moving or lifting of boxes or files up to 20 pounds
    • Able to focus on data, analyze the information and draw conclusions
    • Frequent interactions with coworkers and participants requiring ability to communicate effectively
    • Frequent communication via email requiring ability to fluently read and write in English
    • Frequent preparation and analysis of figures
