Summary:

The Field Services Technician is responsible for theday-to-day operational support of the end user community throughthe installation, configuration, upgrade and maintenance ofworkstation and peripheral equipment. This includes the resolutionof problems reported by the Customer Support Center and theimplementation of new functionality. Documentation and adherence topolicies, procedures and standards of the organization is animportant part of this position. The Field Services Technician isresponsible for delivering high quality, cost effective solutionsto all levels of users. This includes support for both thetechnology and processes. The Field Services Technician is alsoresponsible for supporting the business goals and objectives forthe Department, the Information Services Organization, and theorganization as a whole.

ProblemSolving – Effectively assess, diagnose and resolve basicconfiguration and hardware problems. Quickly and efficientlyresolve problems assigned by the Customer Support Center. Assessoverall performance of workstations and implement standardmaintenance procedures to maximizeperformance.
Workstation Software – Withsupervision, install, configure and maintain operating systemsoftware on client workstations. Provide support on basic featuresof application software such as initiation of software, logging on,navigation and termination. Understand a subset of the totalconfigurations in the organization. Install, configure and maintainmultiple workstation operating systems that include DOS, Windowsv3.11, Windows 95, Windows 98, NetWare, Windows NT and Windows2000. Install and maintain software images that assists in managingclient workstations.
Workstation Hardware– With direction install, configure and maintain hardware forclient workstations. Client hardware includes workstation hardwaresuch as processors, memory, hard drives, modems, video cards,monitors, peripherals, and CD-ROM drives. Possess the skills andknowledge in client workstation technology to supportconfigurations in the organization.
LANAdministration - With supervision, stop and restart services,shutdown and restart operating system software on Windows NT, 2000and Novell servers.
NetworkAdministration - With supervision Telnets to local LAN switches andHubs, activates ports for workstations andprinters.
Telecom – With supervisionassists in the support and maintenance of the telecommunicationsystems – capable of providing dial-tone to thedesktop.
Desktop Hardware and Software –With direction, install, configure and maintain hardware andsoftware.
Communications - Demonstratestrong communication and human relationshipskills.
Inventory Management – Track anddocument the hardware and softwareinventory.
Standards – Install, configureand maintain standards associated with workstation and peripheralprocedures and documentation.
Policiesand Procedures – Follow established policies, procedures andstandards defined by thedepartment.
Communications - Demonstratestrong communication and human relationshipskills.
Vendor Management – Contactvendors regarding service issues to receive support information orassistance as instructed by thesupervisor.
Documentation – Produce andmaintain technical documentation on the assignedsystems.
Reporting – Produce requireddepartment reporting associated with projects assigned by managerand problems assigned through help desk queues. Documentationincludes current status and problem documentation summary withinthe problem management system.
ProjectManagement - With supervision, execute priorities, understandbusiness application, answer technical questions and perform allassigned tasks. Serve as a resource to the project team forassigned client applications.
Teamwork –Maintain and demonstrate good teamwork on assigned projects throughactions and job performance.
CustomerService - Provide effective Customer Service by being courteous,polite and friendly toward others at all times. Acknowledgecustomers immediately in order to determine need and help thecustomer resolve issue or request. Participate in departmentalprograms that promote and deliver exceptional customerservice.
Other – Perform other duties andspecial projects as assigned by the Market OperationsManager.
