    Statement of Job:

    The Tourism and Hospitality Department is seeking a part-time faculty for our Fall semester, beginning September 3, .

    We are searching for an instructor to teach our Local Food and Agritourism (TAH ) course.

    Local Food and Agritourism (TAH ): explores where our food comes from and how it is produced within the context of the growing local food movement. It also examines the parallel increase in agritourism, which involves agricultural businesses diversifying to sustain traditional farm practices, educate the public, and attract visitors. Various agritourism models will be studied, including farm to fork businesses that provide local foods to area restaurants. Students will have the opportunity to visit and possibly conduct research with local agritourism businesses.

    is an innovative undergraduate program that capitalizes on the status of Maine as a premier vacation destination, with diverse culinary, arts, events, adventure, and nature tourism opportunities, and an established and thriving hospitality sector. The mission of the program is to create job-ready graduates who are prepared to be managers, leaders, and innovators in Maines world-famous tourism industry.

    Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior teaching experience. In addition, USM employees can use their USM Card to access the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center(s). USM also offers part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD) and the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.

    Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree in a related field OR Tourism and Hospitality industry work experience
  • Prior experience teaching at the collegiate level is preferred but not required.
