    The Opportunity:

Since 1938, Indiana Hillel has been the center of Jewish life on campus in Bloomington, IN. We seek a visionary leader to step into the role of Executive Director and spearhead the next chapter of success at this vibrant center for Jewish life on campus. As the incoming Executive Director, you will shape the trajectory of Indiana Hillel for the next decade. Your mandate will include rebuilding and reimagining the student engagement model, keeping strong ties to the University administration, and leading the capital campaign to fund the construction of our new building

In this pivotal position, you will serve as the organization's north star, overseeing a dedicated team of professionals and managing a budget of $1 million. The ideal candidate for this role will find inspiration and excitement in leading and rebuilding a nationally recognized operation on a Big 10 campus. This is an unparalleled opportunity to drive positive change, leaving an indelible mark on the college journey of Jewish students on campus.
    What You'll Do:

    Strategy & Vision:
    • Lead the organization in achieving its vision and strategic planning initiatives.
    • Act as a leader and unifier of the community every day, including during times of both celebration and challenge.
    • Inspire and organize pluralistic, diverse Jewish life on campus.
    • Develop strategies to expand the Jewish student community, accommodating a range of backgrounds and interests.
    • Lead the organization in weaving Jewish values and Jewish knowledge into the fabric of the organization.
    Fundraising & Financial Management:
    • Create, drive, and oversee a fundraising strategy that leverages the local and national network of community members, alumni, and parents to support IU Hillel.
    • Personally engage in fundraising with major donors and grant organizations and develop additional and innovative revenue sources.
    • Develop financial resources appropriate for the institution's caliber, the Jewish community's size, and the strategic plan's needs.
    • Develop, take on new projects, and manage the financial resources needed to implement these initiatives and projects.
    • Oversee fiscal budgeting, financial forecasting, day-to-day financial management, and year-end audits and taxes.
    Staff Supervision & Development:
    • Develop and nurture staff, student interns, and student leadership by effectively managing the team and providing growth opportunities.
    • Be the architect of professional growth, leading and mentoring a team that breathes life into our vision of pluralism, inclusivity, and student leadership development.
    • Foster a positive work environment, delegate effectively, and support staff in work assignments and priorities.
    Stakeholder & External Relations:
    • Extend your influence cultivating relationships with IU administration, the local Jewish community leaders, and nationwide alumni and parents.
    • Bridge and develop strategic relationships with organizations and departments on campus, especially the Jewish Studies Department, and throughout the local community.
    • Create a culture of shared responsibility and engagement among members of the board of directors and cultivate relationships with prospective board members who can provide generative and strategic leadership.
    • Build strong partnerships within the Indianapolis Jewish Community.
    Student Engagement & Jewish Life:
    • Serve as an inspiring Jewish role model and a strong leader for students.
    • Build strong and engaging Jewish and educational opportunities.
    • Cultivate meaningful relationships with students and ensure all Jewish students feel welcome.
    • Ensure the student engagement strategy is dynamic, inclusive, and successful in meeting its goals.
    • Recognize and adapt to the changing needs of Jewish college students, Jewish identity development, and campus climate.
    • Ensure IU Hillel is a safe space for students, addressing antisemitism and anti-Israel activities on campus.
    What you've accomplished:
    • A minimum of 8 years of professional work experience with a minimum of 5 years in a management role in a Jewish or secular nonprofit, higher education, or mission-driven organization. Past Hillel experience is preferred.
    • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or Rabbinic ordination preferred.
    • A minimum of 5 years of fundraising and financial management experience for a non-profit organization in a professional or volunteer capacity.
What you'll bring to the job:
    • Strong entrepreneurial spirit. Things may not always go according to plan, but you are willing to take risks and learn from your wins and losses.
    • Creative problem-solving strategies.
    • Deep knowledge of Jewish life, culture, religious traditions, and customs.
    • Capacity to create space for diverse perspectives and allow all student and staff voices to be heard.
    • An inspiring presence that will help others to deepen their interest in Jewish life.
    • Strong relationship-building skills and comfort working with diverse populations.
    • An attitude of proactive communication and collaboration across offices and agencies.
    • Board engagement, development, and management skills.
    • Effective "story-telling" - developing and communicating (both orally and in writing) the organizational mission and narrative. Strong public speaking skills.
    • Able to lead complex conversations about Judaism, Jewish identity, and Israel in an approachable way and meet students at various points in their Jewish journey.
    What you'll receive:
    • Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $135,000-$155,000, commensurate with experience.
    • A comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, life insurance, Long Term Disability (LTD), and Flexible Spending Plan.
    • Generous vacation, sick time, Jewish holidays, and university breaks (note: Hillel staff work year-round and don't have the students' summer break).
    • Paid opportunities for professional development and peer engagement, mentoring, and skill-building.
    • A supportive and committed board of lay leaders and faculty.
    • Strategic support from a dedicated Campus Support Director at Hillel's Schusterman International Center.
    • Opportunities to attend global conferences for personal and professional development.
    • Relocation assistance is available.

Since 1938, IU Hillel has created a warm, welcoming, caring Jewish family and community that celebrates Judaism and Jewish life. IU has become a university chosen by top Jewish high school students and leaders because of the excellence and vibrancy of its Hillel, Jewish Studies Program, and Jewish student community on campus. IU has a very strong and active Jewish community. Hillel offers programs and opportunities to get involved daily, and there are often multiple programs each day. Courses for university credit are taught at Hillel. Hillel offers 15-20 clubs, including Business Leadership Initiative, Hooshir (premiere Jewish a cappella group), Hoosiers for Israel, Third Street Sports Grille, and more. Up to 120 students/year go on Birthright Israel trips with IU Hillel.
