    Responsibilities


    In collaboration with the MCS team, the MCS coordinator is responsible for coordination of all aspects of in-patient and out-patient care and services provided to the Ventricular Assist (VAD) patient population.

    Additionally this position will be responsible for coordination of services needed for new ECMO cannulations. Responsible for the care of patients with congestive heart failure.

    Accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting patient care activities in accordance with HHS standards in order to deliver efficient, effective and quality patient care.

    Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:


    • Participates in the development, implementation and coordination of clinical services and programs for VAD/ECMO patient population.
    • Serves as liaison among the MCS program team members.
    • Coordinates and provides inpatient care and support in all areas of the hospital for VAD patients including intraop device management and post-operative preparation for discharge.
    • Coordinates care and provides education to VAD patients and families preoperatively, postoperatively and ongoing as needed.
    • Coordinates long term management and follow up care for outpatients.
    • Participates in the development and maintenance of current education materials and provides on going education and training for hospital staff, ED, OR and community agencies (such as EMS) as needed for provision of care for the VAD patient.
    • Promotes the Oklahoma Heart MCS program through hospital, community and outreach focusing on patient referrals.
    • Develops and maintains relationships with community physicians, nurses and organizations. Coordinates information flow among medical, ancillary, nursing, financial and insurance company staff.
    • Manages equipment and supplies in conjunction with hospital liaisons.
    • Participates in the in the development and review of policies and procedures for VAD/ECMO patient population.
    • Collaborates with the MCS team members in program quality improvement monitoring, projects and initiatives.
    • Coordinates and supports DNV requirements for VAD certification.
    • Ensures compliance with state, federal, and organizational guidelines and other regulatory agencies, as appropriate.
    • Performs other duties as needed including on-call responsibilities on nights, weekends, and holidays.

    • Knowledge and understanding of critical care and clinic workflow, clinical protocols, procedures, and standards within area of heart failure
    • Leadership skills within area of expertise
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Working knowledge of MS Office and Epic preferred
    Qualifications



    Job Requirements:


    • Associate degree in nursing required
    • Current RN license or current license deemed acceptable by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing
    • BLS
    • ACLS
    • MInimum of 3 yearss of Cardiovascular Heart Failure/Critical Care nursing experience required
    Preferred

    Job Requirements:


    • Bachelor's degree in nursing or MSN preferred
    • Care of patients with VADs.
