    Health and Safety Specialist

    Job Summary:

    The Health and Safety Specialist will provide subject matter expertise on Health and Safety. This position will take an active role in ensuring that H/S requirements and regulations are satisfied in the routine operation of the Richmond Facility. Interface with third party contractors and certification agencies to ensure that the site maintains H/S excellence. Assist in the development of goals and objectives for the site based on the maintenance of EHS Excellence.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Ensure that health and safety regulatory requirements are met, and provide support in accomplishing these goals
    • Schedule monthly department safety meetings
    • Serve as the Process Safety Management (PSM) lead for the H/S team.
    • Provide H/S approval for change controls
    • Perform operational readiness reviews as required, HazOps risk assessments and other safety reviews as required.
    • Maintain and carry out the site industrial hygiene sampling plan and revise accordingly as new products or processes are introduced to the site.
    • Attend monthly safety committee meetings, and ensure that safety inspections are performed at the required frequency, action items are developed and tracked, and toolbox talks are performed.
    • Act as H/S liaison to Site Safety Council
    • Interact with all departments at the site, as well as with third parties and customers during audits and new product proposal meetings
    • Serve as the point of contact for external agencies such as VOSH.
    • Conduct follow up investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses.
    • SME trainer for all H/S training classes
    • Implement H/S programs as per site SOP's and in compliance with OHSA rules.
    • Oversee company asbestos program.

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related scientific or management discipline.
    • 1-5 years of relevant work experience
    • Certification in recognized EHS specialties' (CSP, CIH) or professional licensure may be considered equivalent to up to 3 years of work experience.
    • Advanced knowledge of H/S local, state and federal regulations.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Must be comfortable giving presentations to audiences of all kinds.
    • Must be detail-oriented and a team-player
    • Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written
    • Excellent time management and interpersonal skills
    • Basic Computer Skills to include PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
