    Alpha Public Schools
Alpha Public Schools California, United States

    Default job background
    Description

Alpha Public Schools is a public charter school network of four schools educating approximately 1,900 scholars in east San Jose.

Guided by the belief that our students belong in college, we ensure safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environments to help our students thrive.

What sets us apart is the very thing that makes us who we are– our community.

Alpha was founded by a group of mothers on the eastside of San Jose who sought better educational opportunities for their students.

We maintain a strong connection to our community and engage families in a collaborative approach to offer a holistic education to our students.

The successful Alumni Advisor will work closely with Alpha's alumni to support them in completing college – and you will play a pivotal role in continuing to develop Alpha's model for working with alumni.

Our work in supporting alumni is at a critical moment – you will be fiercely entrepreneurial while building the structures and systems that will support further scaling as we graduate more alumni every year.

You will play a major role in Alpha's "North Star goal" of having 75% of alumni graduate from college.

We seek team members who understand the importance of gaining the trust and confidence of students with widely ranging academic skills and habits and their families.

The ideal candidate understands the power of one-on-one conversations to help others learn and grow.

The Alumni Advisor will spend most of your day working with students to overcome the challenges they experience as first-generation low-income college students.

The Alumni Advisor plays an integral role in teaching students to overcome academic, financial, and other obstacles to college completion, so that at the end of one-to-two years working with you they can navigate key challenges on their own.

The Alumni Advisor is expected to:
    Manage

a caseload of approximately 225 students in various stages of their college career – advising them on 4-year college completion, timely transfers from 2 to 4-year colleges, financial literacy and navigation, and student advocacy.

This may require 25% travel during the fall semester to various colleges as you build relationships with alumni enrolled in various institutions.

    Own

a database of student information (grades, financial aid, scholarships, conversation notes), so that we can build an accurate understanding of how our students are doing, their barriers to success, and the support they need to graduate from college.

    Provide

feedback to our Director of College Readiness and Success regarding Alpha's alumni support model and ways to improve our support for our alumni as they head to and through college.

Implement , in partnership with the College Success team, strategies to address barriers to success in college for Alpha Alumni.

    Support

alumni with scholarships, summer opportunity selection, and matriculation plans for any students not in college.

    What we offer:
At Alpha we care deeply about our scholars and staff.
