    POSITIONSUMMARY:


    Housed within the Computing & Technology Services (CTS) department, theNetwork Analyst position is a member of the Network and Telecommunicationsteam.

    This position is a member of a team of six Network Engineers and NetworkAnalysts who report to the Manager of Network and Telecommunications.

    TheNetwork and Telecommunications team provide broad-based support of the DuquesneUniversity wired and wireless networks, Internet connectivity and fiberinfrastructure.


    As a member of the Computing and Technology Services organization (CTS),the Network Engineer supports the service goals, metrics, strategies, policies,procedures, and project plans of the Central IT Organization.

    The NetworkAnalyst role is to ensure the stability and integrity of the university'snetwork.

    This is achieved by assisting in the planning, design, and developmentof the campus network (LAN, WAN and Wi-Fi) and the services provided via thenetwork (as examples; Voice over IP or VoIP a planned replacement for thecampus telephone service and IPTV an augment to our cable TV service in theLiving Learning Centers), including monitoring and providing technical supportin the day to day operations of the campus infrastructure.


    In addition, theNetwork Analyst will participate with the installation, monitoring,maintenance, support, and optimization of all network / telecommunicationhardware, software, and communication links.

    This work includes maintaining aninventory of network I telecommunication property and assets.

    Preparing andmaintaining networking documentation and network & cabling layouts.


    Analyzing andresolving network hardware and software problems; responding to IT Service Desktelephone calls, emails, and personal requests for technical support in atimely manner; troubleshoot and resolve LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VoIP, and VPN relatedproblems; and report on the operational status of the campus network.

    The Network Analyst will work within the policies ofCTS and Duquesne University.

    The position will consult with the Manager ofNetwork and Telecommunication Services or the Director of IT InfrastructureServices on all personnel issues and concerns.

    Large projects are to beresearched, chartered and planned with CTS management.


    DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Tier 2 networkand telecommunication support for the campus community.
    Tier 2 are complex issues dealing withinfrastructure hardware and software components (switches, routers, wireless,internet connectivity, etc.)

    Assistin managing the tickets in TeamDynamix (problem/incident workspace).

    Assistin monitoring the health and performance on the network/telecom components andcoordinate annual network switch upgrades (wired/wireless).

    Assist with the system administration of the LAN,WAN Wi-Fi and VoIP services.

    Assistin managing/maintaining the network and telecommunication equipment inventory.

    Administration of the Mitel Portal (adds,moves, and changes).

    Maintainthe student network technicians work schedule.

    Travelis required in this position.

    Theposition requires lift and install network and telecommunicationequipment. Also, climbing a ladder to install cabling and/or hang accesspoints.

    Completes otherduties as assigned.


    REQUIREMENTS:

    Minimum qualifications:

    Associate's degree Computer Network Systems from an accredited institution

    Network/Telecommunications training or certifications and 2-5 years ofprogressively responsible experience

    Telecommunicationsfundamentals required

    Voice Over IP and UnifiedCommunications Fundamentals required

    Valid Driver'slicense


    Preferred qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field from an accreditedinstitution

    Alcatel Switch/Wireless Certification (or other NetworkVendor certifications)

    Five years of experience preferred


    Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination ofexperience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilitiesrequired to perform the essential job functions.


    This includes, but is notlimited to, the following:


    The Network Analyst spends the majority of time resolving connectivityproblems reported through Footprints (problem incident).The Network Analyst spends time ontroubleshooting to resolve the issue; requiring a high skill level of analytical,technical, problem solving, collaboration and customer service attributes.

    The Network Analyst position requires the skill and ability to analyze andresolve network hardware and software problems, respond to IT Service Desktelephone calls, emails, and personal requests for technical support in atimely manner; troubleshoot and resolve LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VoIP, and VPN relatedproblems; and report on the operational status of the campus network.
