    The Chief Operating Officer directs and coordinates the activities of the organization in accordance with policies, goals and objectives established by the Board of Directors. The COO ensures the implementation and achievement of short- and long-range organizational goals for operations, financial performance, and growth for the organization. Provides leadership in the development, implementation, and oversight of standards, systems, policies, and procedures in alignment with the organization's strategic initiatives. Evaluates opportunities to achieve improvements, increase patient satisfaction, create operational effectiveness, and potentially increase market share.

    Responsibilities

    COO Performance Expectations:
    1. Participates in the development of strategic planning for the hospital and directs and reviews the development of quality health care programs and services that reflect a consideration of hospital-wide goals, objectives, and community health care needs. Initiates new service areas and monitors and evaluates newly developed programs to ensure that quality health care services are provided by the hospital and its subdivisions.
    2. Establishes hospital policies and procedures congruent with the mission and the hospital's strategic plans, operating goals, and objectives. Monitors the utilization and application of policies and procedures to ensure that quality health care services are provided to the community.
    3. Establishes and monitors programs and policies to strengthen organizations relationship with our physician customers.
    4. Oversees hospital administrative meetings and committees and promotes innovation, strategic plans, and policy revisions to improve the hospital's provision of quality services. Represents the hospital with professional and civic service organizations and strives to promote the mission and image of the hospital.
    5. Prepares and presents formal reports to the CEO and Board of Directors that detail corporate activities and potential health care service programs based on an analysis of market conditions, health care trends, corporate performance, and community standards of care.
    6. Ensures that the hospital establishes continuous quality improvement practices and programs that enhance the attainment of operating goals and objectives.
    7. Works collaboratively with the medical staff, nursing leadership, and clinical/financial/ operational leaders to deliver cost effective, high quality clinical services and outcomes in partnership with affiliate organizations and providers that optimize the delivery of patient care.
    8. Monitors hospital staffing and approves and allocates personnel in a manner that promotes efficient hospital operations and the provision of quality health care services.
    9. In the absence of the CEO, assumes all responsibilities inherent in the position to ensure continuity in the provision of health care services and efficient hospital operations.
    10. Maintains sound working relationships with key leadership across the system, the region's hospitals, ambulatory sites, and physician practices.
    Qualifications

    Experience:
    Ten (10) or more years' experience in senior level operations executive position in a health care setting required. Previous Clinical Service Line management experience required. Previous history of demonstrated superior physician relations skills required.

    Education:
    Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration, or related field.

    Special Skills:
    Highly Cultivated Interpersonal skills complex problem solving & critical thinking skills and time management/prioritization skills; good organizational skills.
