- Orients and trains new food service aides to proper procedures and the values of STEP.
- Fairly and appropriately assigns work to dietary aides.
- Directs the activities of dietary aides to ensure smooth workflow and teamwork. Identifies who needs help and provides support through delegation and hands on assistance.
- Checks the work of the dietary aides to ensure quality, accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to established procedures.
- Ensures accurate product dating, product rotation, and disposal of outdated items.
- Ensures that enough staff is available at all times to prepare and deliver late trays.
- Monitors breaks to ensure that extra time is not taken. Denies breaks if work is not done or if other team members need help.
- Acts as a resource to dietary aides so that they come to you with task-related questions before approaching a supervisor.
- Immediately reports any performance, attitude, or behavior problems to the supervisor.
- Takes and records food temperatures before start of line and ensures that food is within acceptable standards. Returns unacceptable items to cooks. Rechecks temperatures of items that are redone by cooks.
- Checks for proper set up of food items, condiments, dinnerware, beverages, utensils, etc. on tray line.
- Takes steps to ensure that line begins on time and flows smoothly with no delays. Limits conversation to line business only.
- Examines finished trays for diet accuracy, completion, cleanliness, appearance, and quality. Refers any trays which fail to meet established standards back through the assembly process for correction.
- Anticipates tray assembly problems; such as running short of food items, and takes steps required to prevent production delays or problems, conferring with Executive Chef or Cooks as needed. Performs all tasks involved in tray assembly.
- Assigns and supports completion of late trays in a timely manner.
- Loads and/or oversees loading of completed trays into food trucks.
- Ensures timely distribution of food to patient areas to prevent temperature and quality loss.
- Routinely checks equipment and reports problems to Executive Chef.
- Ensures that all work areas are in a clean and orderly condition.
- Observes and ensures that staff observes all safety and sanitation regulations.
- Works in the dish room.
- Prepares and delivers patient nourishments or bulk food supplies as needed.
- Willingly and enthusiastically performs other duties as assigned.

Description
Job Summary
Assigns work and assists with direction and training of dietary aides. Oversees tray line operation and checks trays for accuracy in keeping with individual diet orders and proper completion and appearance. Assists with tray distribution, and performs other duties of a dietary aide as assigned.

Qualifications
Educational / Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED. Food handling. Hospital food service experience preferred.
State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:
None
Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:
General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Other programs as mandated by Ingraham Manor.
Special Requirements:
None
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. up to waist level; 10 to 15 lbs. to chest level. Free range of body motion so that tasks which require walking, bending, stooping, twisting and reaching can be completed, prolonged standing for periods of two or more hours at a time.
Work Environment:
Indoors, temperatures 0 degrees F to 100 degrees F, noisy kitchen environment, wet floors, working with cleaning chemicals and sanitizers.
Cognitive Requirements:
Ability to understand, interpret, and execute written and verbal instructions in English. Basic math skills. Ability to communicate so that the average person can understand. Visual acuity corrected to normal. Ability to communicate with co-workers.
