- Provide accurate and fluent American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for students, teachers, and other school staff during classes, meetings, and school events.
- Support students in various settings, including individual and group classes, school assemblies, and extracurricular activities.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students with hearing impairments.
- Prepare and review lesson materials to be familiar with subject matter and vocabulary used in classes.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards as outlined in the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) code of professional conduct.
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter and an EIPA score.
- Bachelor's degree in ASL/English Interpretation, Deaf Studies, or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience interpreting in educational settings, ideally within K-12 schools.
- Familiarity with the Michigan Department of Education's standards and regulations for sign language interpreting.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
