    SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

    Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington. LWTech offers , , and in , including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

    LWTech serves the Eastside and is located within the city of Kirkland, which is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Washington. Kirkland is home to companies such as GoDaddy, Google, Astronics and EvergreenHealth, and the college is within minutes from Microsoft and Nintendo.

    Lake Washington Technical Academy (LWTA) is a special purpose high school embedded on the LWTech campus. LWTA is an accredited high school which is fully recognized by OSPI. LWTA supports LWTECH's mission by providing access for youth to a variety programs and dual-credit options. LWTech serves a diverse student population who come from the greater Seattle area as well as the Eastside

    Summary
    Provide vision, leadership, and management for the college's high school programs. Manage all aspects of an independently accredited special high school. Supervise the provision of professional-technical and basic education services and support to high school students. Direct department and program staff, services, scheduling, training, budgets, grants, research and development, accreditation, marketing, public relations and information dissemination, and special projects. Work effectively with employees, students, community representatives, vendors, and other state agencies. This is an exempt, contracted administrative position that reports to the Vice President of Instruction.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Manage and lead the planning, operations, and evaluation activities of an independently accredited special high school in a manner consistent with the college mission, goals, and policies; oversee and coordinate all other functions related to high school enrollment
    • Develop and manage LWTech college budgets and outside grants
    • Advocate for high school aged students from underprivileged, minority, and unhoused populations, as well as LWTA program staff and faculty needs, with internal and external constituencies
    • Develop strategies to ensure the continued growth and success of high school programs; advocate for LW Technical Academy (LWTA) student and program needs with internal and external constituencies; provide information on the LWTA mission, development, services, and progress; act as liaison between participating schools, college admissions, instructors and LWTA staff
    • Manage high school records and information; prepare and supervise the preparation of student grades and transcripts, LWTA communications, and reports for internal and external sources including OSPI
    • Advise and inform individuals and groups; manage student referrals; assist counselors in credit assessment and transfer processes; assist students with educational success strategies and assist instructors with student management strategies
    • Coordinate and manage all processes and reporting of the Running Start program
    • Coordinate and manage all processes and reporting of the Open Doors program, including the Language Intensive Program portion thereof
    • Decide underage enrollment requests and general student appeals or exception requests
    • Supervise Parent Education program through partner organizations
    • Administer Open Doors programs at other colleges through contracted agreements
    • Develop new programs, and modify existing programs to improve student outcomes, based on knowledge of innovations in education, alternative instructional strategies, research of at-risk youth, and trauma informed educational practices
    • Interpret student records, progress reports, credit checks and skills assessment data; assess student progress; manage the placement of special needs students in appropriate programs; assist students as needed and facilitate referral to alternative support systems if necessary
    • Develop master schedule of classes with teacher assignments; adjust student and instructor schedules
    • Coordinate PNW College Credit opportunities on the LWTech campuses; investigate and pursue complementary high school access programs such as Open Doors
    • Advise students on financial aid availability and requirements for continuation of training; provide potential students with post-secondary program information
    • Oversee procurement and distribution of LWTA equipment, supplies, books, and tools
    • Advise and inform college staff on department matters; ensure areas of responsibility operate in accordance with federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, and college policy
    • Manage relationship as an accredited independent special purpose high school with accrediting organizations, school districts, and the OSPI;
    • Coordinate department and program functions with the broader Instructional and Student Services Teams
    • Administer the program in accordance with board policies, statutory requirements, administrative rules and regulations
    • Represent the college at professional and community organizations, participate in college system professional conferences and in-service activities
    • Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff; develop and monitor in conjunction with staff annual growth/ professional development plans; participate on tenure committees as assigned; back up other college staff as necessary
    • Assist the Vice President of Instruction and other college administrators as necessary; assume and effectively discharge other duties as assigned
    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Masters degree in education, educational administration, curriculum or related field required; doctorate preferred
    • Valid Washington state K-12 principal certificate, or equivalent and related work experience and background
    • Two years minimum senior level experience in instructional administration experience and/or high school leadership preferred
    • Demonstrated understanding of instructional techniques and administration that support the philosophy and mission of the college
    • Knowledge and understanding of current education issues, to ensure curriculum is aligned with Washington state academic learning requirements
    • Experience working with historically underserved and minority high school students
    • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills necessary to attain department and program goals, make presentations, resolve conflicts, and effectively represent the college
    • Demonstrated analytical skills necessary to collect, compile, and report statistical information, determine staffing levels, develop and implement budgets, and perform other administrative responsibilities

    Compensation
    Initial salary placement is $10,270. This is a 40-hours per week, exempt position. Typical working hours at Monday - Friday 7:30 -4:30pm on-campus or via teleworking.
