Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this full-time contractual position will be to provide peer recovery support services to individuals experiencing homelessness who also have a substance use disorder, mental health disorder, and/or co-occurring disorders to begin and maintain a path to housing and recovery.The PATH Program links a vulnerable population of individuals experiencing serious mental health disparities to mainstream and other supportive services. The goal is to assist individuals experiencing homelessness (or at imminent risk of homelessness) and who have serious mental health illness or co-occurring substance use disorders (SUDs) to secure safe, stable housing; improve their health; and live self-directed, purposeful lives.The PATH Peer will serve as a member of LHC and SMC Homeless Board Meetings in addition to other Behavioral Health Division staff. This position will also work with the Behavioral Health Division, LHC, and the Homeless Board to ensure that eligible PATH participants are referred and placed on the Coordinated Entry System to receive services when funding becomes available. In addition, this position will continue to monitor and connect to other Behavioral Health services in the community including but not limited to case management, psychiatric rehabilitation programs, DHS benefits, therapy and/or other peer related programming.NOTICE: This position may require evening or weekend hours as needed to support the needs of the program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a highschool equivalencycertificate.Experience: None.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess: Experience working with individuals who are homeless Experience working with individuals who have a mental health and/or substance use disorder

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a currentcertification as a Peer Recovery Specialist within 24 months from date ofhire from the Maryland Addictions Professional Certification Board (MAPCB) located at 10807 Falls Rd., #1376, Brooklandville, MD Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require theoperation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1.Employees in this classification who fail to obtain the required certification by the end of 24 months of continuous employment with the hiring department shall be subject to disciplinary action including demotion, suspension and dismissal. 2.Applicants for this classification must be in a state of recovery for 2 years from a substance use, mental health or co-occurring disorder before they can be qualified to be hired as a Peer Recovery Specialist, Certified. 3.Employees in this classification must complete any additional training that isdeemed necessary and appropriate to maintain required certification. 4. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing, inaccordance with Code of Maryland Regulation , Testing for Illegal Useof Drugs.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
