    Job Description

    Shipyard Staffing is currently hiring for Outside Machinist for work in Newport News, VA.

    Outside Machinist Job Role:

    • Responsibility for removing, installing, and testing main and auxiliary shipboard equipment such as Main Reduction Gears (MRG), pumps, valves, hydraulic equipment, steam equipment, propellers, bearings, etc. on maritime vessels including US Navy, Military Sealift Command, and commercial ships.
    • Work involves different stages of repair and modernization, operating a variety of tools and machinery, and understanding specifications and drawings.
    • The following qualifications and experience are desired:
    • Ability to understand instructions, drawings, and ship repair terminology.
    • Familiarity with ship compartment locations and wearing necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Capability to write detailed Condition Found Reports (CFR), work from Process Control Procedures (PCP), and use precision measurement tools.
    • Effective communication with supervisors, interpretation of technical manuals, and knowledge of safety procedures.
    • Understanding of NAVSEA standard items and experience in machinist roles, specifically in the maritime industry.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Adherence to OSHA standards and safety practices.
    • Punctuality, completion of assigned work, cleanliness of work area, and quality work output.
    • Compliance with non-discrimination and anti-harassment policies, professionalism in all workplace relationships.
    • Ability to follow instructions, handle unexpected events professionally, and work collaboratively with other crafts.
    • Tasks include creating safe work environments, coordinating equipment removal, performing repairs, conducting tests, and documenting work accurately.
    • Directing helpers, implementing safety measures like Lock-out Tag-out, and following safety standards.
