    The Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) is a non-profit organization that aims to empower low- to moderate-income Latinos and other D.C. area residents by providing them with the necessary tools for financial independence and leadership in their communities. Their efforts focus on small business development, lending, homeownership counseling, and affordable housing preservation.

    Housing Counseling Program

    LEDC, a HUD-certified housing counseling agency, assists families in the Metropolitan area and Baltimore in purchasing their first homes and avoiding foreclosure. They offer financial capability education, first-time homebuyers group education, foreclosure counseling, and loss mitigation support.

    The Bilingual Housing Counselor plays a crucial role in providing housing counseling and group education to LEDC clients, guiding them through the home purchase process, financial capability, rental counseling, foreclosure prevention, and first-time homebuyer programs. The counselor collaborates with the Housing Counseling Team and reports to the Housing Counseling Program Manager in DC. The position involves working one day a week from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM and at least one Saturday per month. Responsibilities of the Bilingual Housing Counselor include:

    • Offering individual counseling to residents in the serviced markets to help them achieve their housing goals, including rights and obligations as tenants, financial health management, becoming homeowners, and safeguarding their investments.
    • Communicating effectively with clients through various channels.
    • Assessing clients' financial capacity for home buying and creating tailored financial action plans.
    • Providing counseling on down payment assistance programs and other housing-related financial aid.
    • Collaborating with professionals in the home buying process.
    • Providing technical assistance and documentation for housing counseling services.
    • Conducting workshops on home purchase, foreclosure prevention, and financial capability.
    • Engaging in community outreach activities for housing counseling services.
    • Assisting in program reporting and management.
    • Participating in housing counseling and foreclosure prevention efforts.
    • Maintaining expertise in housing counseling best practices and certifications.

    Location & Schedule

    The role is based at the LEDC DC office. It is a full-time position, requiring 40 hours per week, with work scheduled on one weekday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM and at least one Saturday per month, along with occasional travel.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's Degree or 2-3 years of relevant work experience.
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
    • Housing Counseling Certification within 90 days of hire.
    • Proficiency in Client Management Systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
    • Flexibility to work evenings and Saturdays.
    • Experience in documentation and case management related to housing counseling.
    • Relevant certifications to be obtained and maintained.

    Nice-to-haves:

    • Experience as a certified housing counselor.
    • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality housing counseling.
    • Previous housing counseling experience.
    • Effective team player with creative thinking ability.
    • Passion for assisting diverse communities, including limited English speakers.

    Compensation and Benefits

    The salary for this position ranges from $52,564 to $61,008 annually, based on experience. LEDC provides benefits such as healthcare, vision, dental, disability, and life insurance plans, along with sick leave, vacation days, and more.
