    The College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS) is committed to developing collaborative, student-centered relationships between Graduate Program Specialists and graduate students that support achievement of academic success, promote personal and professional development of students, and foster a sense of community for our graduate students. CEAS Graduate Program Specialists support the whole student through a developmental, student-focused approach. Graduate Program Specialists are charged with developing and implementing advising strategies and interventions to enhance the performance and persistence of students, as well as supporting the graduate education mission of their unit more broadly by supporting the faculty who oversee the unit's graduate programs. Experienced career professionals in this position typically maintain their regular student caseloads but contribute an expanded role by performing elements of service to the college and/or campus graduate advising community.

    This position leads graduate program recruitment efforts, handling communication with prospective students (we receive over 10K requests for information). The Senior Graduate Program Specialist develops and leads marketing and recruiting strategies in collaboration with their unit's graduate committee, and prepares students to become future leaders in their field.

    The position will lead, review, and improve recruitment practices for the Bachelors-Accelerated Masters (BAM) programs, MS, and PhD programs in the department. This position will be responsible for promoting the MS and PhD programs externally through web-based and email advertising, outreach to industry and other programs, and participation in conference and networking events.

    This position is responsible for managing the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts within the graduate program at the Department of Computer Science (CS), and is responsible for proactive outreach and communication. Communication with the graduate program leadership is critical to this role, and includes sharing information related to recruitment efforts, professional development, and community-building opportunities.

    What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

    Graduate Program Recruitment:

    • Oversees graduate student recruitment for the graduate program.
    • Informs the Graduate Program leadership about recruitment strategies of underrepresented groups within Computer Science.
    • Serves as main point of contact for all applicants to the graduate program and guides applicants through the entire application process.
    • Advises prospective graduate students about departmental offerings and the requirements for admittance into the department's graduate programs.
    • Handles the communication load for all prospective students.
    • Connects applicants to relevant college and campus resources/programs.
    • Develops internal and external partnerships to expand outreach to new markets.
    • Creates, plans, and implements annual graduate student recruiting visit events, in-person and/or virtual, including outreach with regional or local organizations, industry partners and events to promote program offerings.
    • Coordinates with the college marketing team and faculty to implement marketing and recruitment campaigns that have both national and international outreach.
    • Advises applicants regarding academic prerequisite requirements and options for completing them; consults with graduate program leadership to clarify department, college, and campus policies and processes.
    • Recommends new target markets and develops strategies to increase enrollment with specific focus on recruiting individuals from underrepresented populations.
    • Uses analytical approach to create and propose annual recruitment strategies; leads the execution of this strategy with the Grad Program leadership. Assists with the compilation of data from the previous year's applications and admissions.
    • Tracks recruitment, retention, and performance of women and underrepresented groups in Computer Science graduate program and informs the leadership of relevant trends.
    • Leads the annual graduate student recruiting programs, such as information sessions and visits.
    • Assists with designing the process for graduate students' and BAM students' admissions and orientation, working with graduate committees and graduate staff, any student organizations, and other entities on campus to plan for and to prepare presentations.
    • Disseminates information regarding specific focus-area research opportunities and curriculum requirements, available university services, department and Graduate School regulations and policies.

    Graduate Program Administration:

    • Designs and determines the process for gathering, maintaining, and analyzing graduate and BAM statistics and recruitment data regarding applicants, matriculants and graduates, and benchmarks against peer programs.
    • Works with the Office of Admissions, Graduate School, The College of Engineering and Applied Science, Office of International Admissions and Office of Admissions, other student support services offices on campus and other Engineering Graduate Program Specialists in the college on broader programmatic issues.
    • Handles the Departmental Diversity and Equity efforts within the graduate program and represents the graduate program in campus wide diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
    • Stays current about changing curricula, rules, and policies at the department/program, college, and university levels and how to apply them consistently to different circumstances.
    • Collaborates with other Graduate advisors on the best processes and finds opportunities for collaboration.
    • Ensures information on the departments graduate program website is accurate, compelling, and up to date.
    • Submits/designs any surveys/feedback mechanisms for department/program improvement.

    Department-Specific Duties/Other:

    • Handles the prospective students' loads in the department (in an average year, we have over 10K requests for information).
    • Develops marketing materials for distribution to prospective students, alumni, industry, and other partners.
    • Works closely with the Office of Admissions Graduate recruiting team to coordinate with the recruitment efforts.
    • Works closely with the External Chair and industry Relations Events coordinator to seek opportunities of recruitment of students from the industry.
    • Designs and coordinates student-focused events to promote a sense of community and increase retention rates among current graduate students.
    • Work with CS-Graduate Student Association and CS-Graduate Professional Development Club to ensure students are well supported in their efforts.
    • Provides content for the CS Communication and Marketing Professional to develop fresh, bold and purposeful graduate recruitment materials and materials for current graduate students when appropriate. Works as the main liaison for graduate programs for DEI-related programs within the department.
    • Undertakes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
    • Stays apprised and current on relevant University and State of Colorado policies and procedures.
    • Participates in professional development activities and serves on unit, college or campus committees as applicable.

    Professional Development and Community Building:

    • Works on providing professional development opportunities for current students.
    • Supports the Graduate Students Professional Development Club with industry relations and alumni events.
    • Works with industry partners to build networks and design programs to connect these opportunities for current students.

    What We Can Offer

    The starting salary range for this position is $60,000 - $65,000. Relocation assistance is available within CEAS guidelines.

    What We Require

    • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution.
    • Three years of professional-level experience as an academic advisor at an educational institution, including experience with admissions and recruiting cycles and processes.
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

    • Demonstrated experience with Cloud-based services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, and/or Googles G Suite.
    • Willingness to work in an environment which may demand some flexibility or evening/weekend work.
