Overview:
Assist in performing and tracking daily inspection of construction work on a variety of roadway projects.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Direction
Perform work under direct supervision of an experienced professional and follow established procedures and clearly defined processes. Receive direction on all aspects of assignments, specific tasks and how to execute. Work is thoroughly reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound techniques and principles.
At the Operational and Company Level
Assist in the maintenance of existing client relationships.
Do the Work
Observe and inspect construction work and prepare daily inspection reports and constructability reviews.
Oversee daily construction work including work zone traffic control, earthwork, erosion control, asphalt paving, concrete paving, drainage structure installation, reinforced concrete, and equipment installation.
Complete daily calculating, reporting, documenting, and communicating verbally and in writing.
Compute quantities for items such as concrete, asphalt, steel, earthwork, drainage structures, and traffic control devices.
Operate company vehicle, computer, and testing equipment.
Analyze shop drawings of moderate complexity.
Maintain daily job log.
Refer and report problems and deviations from plans and specifications to management. Take part in reviewing submittals, assisting with RFI's, and other related activities.
May give some direction to contractors and act as field engineer representative and owner's representative regarding problem solving and field changes.

Qualifications:
High school diploma (GED) required. Engineering program completion preferred; commensurate experience considered.
Entry level position, no prior experience required. Any construction/inspection experience on roadway projects preferred.
Experience on DOT or municipal roadway projects including daily records and reports on asphalt paving, concrete work, grading, structural work, and erosions control preferred.
Current South Carolina CEPSCI (Certified Erosion Prevention & Sediment Control Inspector) registration strongly preferred.
Introductory knowledge of road and bridge construction techniques, design, DOT specifications and documents, standard operations, policies and procedures of a firm, preferably within the A/E industry preferred.
Familiarity with or the ability to learn how to use tools and equipment such as air meter, slump cone, transit, level, and tape measure preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Primarily outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Mobility around an office environment.
Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
Occasional pushing or pulling up to 75 pounds.
Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
