- Follows authorized technical procedures when performing patient testing.
- Meets turn-around-times, receives specimens from clinical services.
- Assists in gross dissection of tissue, load and operates tissue processors.
- Embeds paraffin infiltrated specimens and sections embedded tissue.
- Performs frozen sections.
- Performs routine hematoxylin and eosin staining of slides, routine special stain techniques.
- Leads histology team to expected goals to gross, process, embed, cut, and stain tissue as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Possess the knowledge and skills to serve all ages.
- Knowledge of routine and advanced histology procedures in histology.
- Knowledge of immunohistochemistry and immunoflourecense.
- Knowledge of the process of all aspects of the histology lab, including tissue processing, microtomy, special staining procedures and immunohistochemistry used for tissue differentiation and diagnosis.
- Ability to work with precision and care to insure accuracy and efficiency under periods of pressure and stress.
- Ability to establish rigid controls to insure all specimens are properly identified as to source and type.
- Must be computer literate.
- Good communication skills and the ability to prioritize work.

Shift: 1:00a - 9:30a, Monday - Friday with rotating weekend call
General Description: Under minimal supervision, coordinates the day-to-day activities for a section of the OU Medicine Histology Laboratory.
Essential Responsibilities:
Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position.
Education: Associate's degree or higher required. Degree in Histotechnology or Natural Science preferred.
Experience: 2 or more years of experience as a certified Histotechnologist or Histotechnician required. 4 or more years of experience working in a Surgical Pathology/Histology department preferred.
Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: Certified Histotechician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required.
