Job Description Summary
In the GE GE Aerospace Electric Power ATO (Advanced Technology Organization), you will work with senior, talented engineers on breakthrough technologies for various military and commercial applications.
Together along with partners such as NASA, GE Aviation is defining game changing technology for the aviation industry to ensure the long-term viability of our planet.
The Senior Engineer activities for Controls include contributing to the design, development, troubleshooting, and verification of closed loop control systems for products, solutions, and systems for the Aviation industry.
At this facility you have an opportunity to put your engineering training and skills to use.
Our Engineers are focused and challenged on developing new technologies and delivering state of the art products such as Hybrid Electric aircraft, the latest military platforms, and SiC technology to name a few.
Plus, if you like hands-on work, there is also a 155,000 sq ft lab that includes 6 high power test cells totaling 15 MW, an EMI chamber, an electronics lab, a rapid build prototype lab, and a real time simulator lab with all the latest equipment.
Big News GE Aerospace to invest up to $20 million to add a new test cell and equipment at the Electrical Power Integrated Systems Center (EPISCenter) in Dayton, Ohio, to meet increased demand for hybrid electric aircraft engine component testing in coming years.
Roles and Responsibilities
Analyze customer requirements and select best power converter topologies to meet the requirements
Create control algorithms and simulate power systems using MATLAB/Simulink and
PLECS
or equivalent simulation tools to support design efforts
Work with software team t o implement embedded control algorithms in digital signal processors and/or FPGA as the application dictates.
Tune the control loops, troubleshoot, and verify control algorithms for power electronic products such as converters and inverters that control various equipment such as motor/generators in the lab environmentTest embedded motor controller or power electronic circuits through digital communication, debugger, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, and Bode plot machines in a lab environment
Work with customers both internal and external to troubleshoot issues
Lead the validation efforts to test functionality of equipment
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college
Minimum of 6 years of experience within an engineering role
This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens.
GE will require proof of status.
Desired Characteristics
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
from an accredited university or college
3 years of experience developing controls systems for power electronic/rotating
equipment applications
Strong knowledge of various types of motors, their analytical models for simulation and controls
Strong knowledge of power electronic circuits, topologies, and their characteristics
Hands on experience in C embedded programming, microprocessors and their peripherals
Experience with FPGA designs and ability to read hardware description language
Ability to understand schematics and PCB layout
Hands-on experience of operating standard electronic test equipment; oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, frequency generators, signal analyzers, etc
