    JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


    We are searching for Electrical Engineer to join our System Design Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University.

    ARL/Penn State's purpose is to develop innovative solutions to challenging national problems in support of the Navy, DoD, and Intel communities engineering and technology needs.

    Your will contribute to the design and deployment of Research and Development SONAR systems.
    ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.


    You will:

    Support small, interdisciplinary, cross-functional teams, often including external technology partnersPerform System and Electrical Engineering roles in circuit design from early prototype work through limited production, including system and circuit levels of performance analysis, qualification, and testingCreate System level functional and electrical circuit diagrams, models, and simulationsPerform circuit designs for low noise, low power, high efficiency (battery powered) electronics with emphasis on quality, reliability, and regulatory compliancePerform circuit designs for high speed, high power switching power amplifiers and energy conversion / power supply circuitsLead and perform electronic CAD work including responsibilities for overseeing all phases of Schematic and PCB designs, directing BOM management and transfer to fabrication servicesDevelop System level and inter-disciplinary requirements documents, including performance requirements, test and validation plans, and specifications This position can be filled at the advanced or senior professional level, depending on your education and experience.

    Minimally requires Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline plus 5 years' related experience for the advanced professional level.

    Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level positions. A Masters' Degree is preferred.


    Required skills/experience areas include:

    Strong analytical skills, including analysis, simulation and prediction for complexmultidisciplinary systemsStrong skills and demonstrable experience in low noise and high power electronics, including high efficiency battery power supply and power management designs analog, mixed, and digital signal conditioning and processingProficiency in analog and mixed circuit design skills required, including low noise small signal amplifiers, filters, signal conditioning and protection circuits, ADCs DACs, CODECsExpert level skills in Embedded hardware design with emphasis on low power microcontrollers, SOCs and CODECsDeep understanding of closed loop circuits and control systemsTravel during field testing of deployed systemsPreferred skills/experience areas include:Embedded Firmware programming skills highly desirable and a big plusYour working location will be on-site in State College, PA.ARL at Penn State is an integral part of one of the leading research universities in the nation and serves as a University center of excellence in defense science, systems, and technologies with a focus in naval missions and related areas.
