- Performs instrument, sponge, needle/sharp counts according to policy.
- Assembles equipment and checks for appropriate function before use on patient.
- Inspects surgical packs, instrument tray wraps for integrity of wrap before opening to ensure sterile field.
- Opens sets and checks for biological indicators.
- Participates in Q.A. monitoring activities related to surgical patients.
- Follows hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patient during pre-operation procedures.
- Performs pre-operation preparations to the patient's skin, body and medical equipment.
- Assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment, as well as adjust and check it to ensure it is working properly.
- Get patients ready for surgery by washing, shaving, and disinfecting incision sites.
- Transport patients to the operating room, help position them on the operating table, and cover them with sterile surgical "drapes."
- Observe patients' vital signs, check charts, and assist the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves.
- Pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants.
- Develops a plan with OR Operations Manager and OR Educator to meet learning needs and attain/maintain competency.
- Attends available workshops and seminars to enhance clinical competency.
- Attends unit specific in services.
- Completes all mandatory hospital in services. (CPR, Infection Control, Safety).
- Attends staff meetings and actively participates in problem solving.
