Job summary
The Housing Litigation Division (HLD) initiates litigation against property owners in Housing Court to ensure compliance with housing standards contained in the New York City Housing Maintenance Code and New York State Multiple Dwelling Law.As an Agency Attorney L-2 for the Queens/Staten Island Unit and under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner and/or Supervising Attorney in the Housing Litigation Division,
The selected candidate's responsibilities will include serving as a Staff Attorney litigating cases on behalf of HPD's Office of Enforcement and Neighborhood Services (OENS), executing difficult negotiations on behalf of HPD,
Researching legal aspects related enforcement administration acts rules laws regulations housing standards etc..
Preparing complex briefs legal opinions affidavits memoranda other legal papers arguing them before Housing Court;
Advising OENS members within law enforcement community agencies public partners government institutions about relevant matters impacts decisions affecting real estate property owners residents tenants tenants' rights landlords building managers community organizations advocacy groups
